2nd time in 2 years a SB Phantom 377 is for sale with full kit
both times seller wants to sell full kit ONLY
sail is nice, but this brings price up

do I offer a little less and sell

1) the Severne Raceboard 9.5 sail + 520 mast + carbon boom + extension
2) my JP SLW92
3) my Mistral Equipe II XR/MEQ

this would bring the cost to less than $500 out of pocket

the dilemma is the buying and selling, but also ...
i just got the MEQ II this spring and am loving it

this was a good video, but did even better on Tuesday of this week

thoughts ??

side note: do play with straps, but not used to this board fully yet

When you up haul you must get the clue end of the boom out of the water as quickly as possible, Once up do not allow it to touch the water again. That said its a big job with a sail that large. Make the transition from uphaul to powering the sail quicker. Once the end of the sail is out of the water you can throw it forward and get the sail in position to power up. learn to water start. Looks like your having fun and that's the most important thing. From what I see, you could really benefit from lessons. ABK camp or World Winds on Bird Island in April. Your ready to take the next step into higher winds, faster boards and carving turns. All made much easier with proper instruction....

Never leave wind to find wind. By the same token, never ditch perfect kit to find other perfect kit. Your Severne 9.5, assuming the spar is right, is as good as it gets for longboarding, so you can’t sell it - you’ll spend a fortune and all kinds of time trying to find anything nearly as good. I think you have significant overlap between the Equipe and the SLW, but in what respect is the 377 superior to either? Only inasmuch as it will allow you to ride a bigger fin than the box and narrow tail of the Equipe can support. but until you’re in the straps pushing against that bigger fin it’s irrelevant.

I’d sit tight for now. I agree that getting into the straps is the next big thing and then you’ll be able to fully sheet in the 9.5 and realize why it’s such a monster (can you tell I wish I had one?)

i knew the video would add confusion
straps are one thing and uphaul another
near the end of a session, it is not uncommon for me to muff a tack and the subsequent uphaul
tired old bones

yes, there is too much overlap with the MEQ and the JP SLW
that is why i am already chatting with someone about selling the JP

the Severne RaceSail is part of the SB Phantom kit
if i don't sell the sail, then it becomes more like $1500 out of pocket

all that is kind of irrelevant in the sense that why change a dollar for four quarters
as others have hinted...

i dream of having a Phantom one day and drool every time i see one
as suggested, will let it go and work on skills with current equipment
local lessons are beginner oriented and ABK is too far ($$)

in case someone else wants to pass drool stage, here is a link and photo

Hey Joe,

I agree with the others about your current set-up being plenty adequate (even excellent) for your current stage, but............

Life is short, and sailing the dream could be worth the financial
nuisance. Can you get a ride on the thing? That might
increase, or reduce, your desire to own it.

Just say'n

I think that it would be a bad idea to sell the JP SLW.

IN the conditions in the video, an 8.5 on the SLW might have been delicious. Once you get in the straps and close the gap on the SLW, you'll come to the conclusion that it is more fun than the longboards.

Joe,
Spend a lot less money & get or make one of these.

It is sooooooo much easier with the big sails.

thanks coachg

i actually have one, BUT it is on my big HPL carbon boom
always wondered if i should put one on my shorter boom
based on your suggestion , I WILL

as far as trying the SB Phantom, it is too far
and that would be too big a tease
have plenty of good weapons already

thanks for the vote of confidence gvogelsang
i actually LOVE the JP SLW

Joe, just loop a short length of line on the booms so you can switch the easy uphaul between booms.

Joe,

For those of us who don't live in places where it is windy all of the time, a road bike can be a great way to keep exercising and keep the pounds off. Staying in shape on a bike can be a great way to maximize our time on the water.
