IN the conditions in the video, an 8.5 on the SLW might have been delicious. Once you get in the straps and close the gap on the SLW, you'll come to the conclusion that it is more fun than the longboards. |
Hi Joe
Got to agree. Wouldn't sell the JP SLW
There is cross over in wind conditions of use but not ride experience.
I use my Phantom 377 much less these days as I improve my technique on the JP SLW. Don't want this to be a long board vs shortboard post, lit up the Phantom is awesome however not a lot of difference to being lit up on a F2 lightening. However lit upon the JP SLW is another world.
Watched your video - lot of fun. Looked like perfect SLW conditions.
If I'm going local sailing and the wind is marginal I tend to take the F2 and SLW on the roof of the car. The carbon construction of the Phantom377 leaves me a little wary of getting transport rash - it damages easily compared to the construction of the older longboards. Usually save the Phantom for when I go camping by the lake for a couple of weeks.
Would be a shame to see the SLW go before you have tasted its full pleasures
Cheers Jeff |

Don't worry Jeff , Vogelgesang and others
Max who purchased the 2003 SB Formula 147, was drooling over my JP SLW92 and I was considering selling it to him
He saw my hesitance and went out and got the Formula
I was hoping he would at least try the SLW92 that day @ Vaudreuils
when i left and went back to work, I told him that i was NOT ready to sell it
that day and others since have shown me that it can be a lot of fun with 8.5 conditions as well (20-40 kph winds)
even though it has outboard straps , which i have moved in, I am hoping that this is the board to get me in the straps
with the Mistral Equipe II XR and JPSLW there is quite a large wind range available !!
next board(s) down is/are a little speedier and require more wind
thanks for your concern
joe
nb thanks also for warning about fragile Phantom !! |
