Every month or so I go on the local craigslist just for kicks to see what kind of gear people might be selling. There's always one or two ads for old junky gear at stupid prices, but today, there are like 6-7 different ads for gear thats 20-30 years old and prices that it's clear someone is trying find a sucker.
Please, if you're a beginner or just getting back into the sport, ask one of the many people on here for some advice before you waste your money. We aim to look after our newbies. _________________ Kansas City |

Ha! Ha!
I was just checking the local Craig's List myself a little while ago and saw the same thing. Late 80's / early 90's Mistral, Alpha, and Sailboard Masterclass longboards for sale. Asking price several hundred bucks each.
I get the feeling these are people clearing out a basement or a storage unit and know little about the sport. Probably not even the original owner - or if they are, they have been out of the sport a long time.
Every once in a while I'll send them a quick email (under the assumption they don't know how out-dated their gear is) to clue them in. |

I saw a Gorge Animal Bonzer (5-finned marvel ... in the 90s) for sale on the east coast last winter for $2,500. I asked him to let me know how that turned out, offering to send him some more @ $500 a pop if he got even a fourth of that, because I can pick them up here for <$50 in primo condition.
Never heard back from him.
Advised another seller to RAISE his price on a 2001 Maui Project Wave board, as they are marvelous B&J and wave boards for real world (you know ... with chop instead of those glassy faces I've never seen in person) conditions. |
