Ha ha, you don't live foreever.....
Last week, went up to Sherman for a sail, sailed about an hour, got one drop up my nose, and went in for 10 minutes.
I'm not used to fresh water windsurfing.
Went back out for 40 minutes, no water splashing this time.
Fresh water is annoying. |

Seriously??? ....so, I guess you'd say the same thing to a first time driver about wearing their seatbelt, huh?
This is a horrible way to die, and completely preventable; much like wearing a seat belt or a motorcycle helmet: it'll save your life. I wear my nose clip everytime I sail now, because this stuff is real, and I have too much to lose to not take it seriously.
Salt water sailors don't need to worry about brain eating ameobas, only fresh water, and warm fresh water at that. _________________ Kansas City |

The reservoir local in Colorado..the swim beach was closed due to parasites
It's strange cause it was open to windsurfers sup and others.
Heard this was cause by waterfowl droppings
Can't see that one area only could be effected.. _________________ K4 fins

Wikipedia excerpt:
N. fowleri occurs in three forms – as a cyst, a trophozoite (ameboid), and a biflagellate.
The cyst form ... has been found to encyst at temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F).
The trophozoite stage is the infective stage for humans. It transforms near 25 °C (77 °F) and grows fastest around 42 °C (106.7 °F)
The flagellate stage ... can be inhaled into the nasal cavity during swimming or diving ... where it transforms into a trophozoite within a few hours.

Looks like we're safe in the Columbia, which invades my sinuses at least once every windy day. Many warmer lakes (it does not survive salt water), though, probably harbor one of the latter two stages. |

Now wait a moment....since 1962 there have been 150 confirmed cases...in the whole United States....that is less than 3 cases per year. Sounds pretty remote to worry about to me. There is a better chance of getting killed in the car getting to the beach on time. Wear that seatbelt.
