But it's foggy!

I've always heard sailing the OR coast in the fog is neither feasible nor smart, as it kills the wind. Yet my best days there have been in heavy fog right up to and on the beach ... very limited visibility (couldn't see North America from the outside) but very strong and fairly steady wind from shore to miles offshore.
