|
|
I've got a golfer's elbow (diagnosed by PT and my family doctor), and now giving it a rest (as per their advise), applying 3% Diclofenac, doing stretching and exercises and wearing tennis elbow strap. My Bonaire vacation starts mid-September, and I want to windsurf there, not just to watch! And, I don't want to make the injury worse
My friends who had similar problems (but they aren't windsurfers nor athletes) told me KT tape is great. http://www.kttape.com/what-is-kt-tape/. I see some athletes wearing it.
Anyone has experience with it?

windward1, get the surgery. It's not good to wait too long. |

Would advise do NOT get surgery. I've had it 2 or 3 times. It's aggravating, and will go away. I've used the tennis elbow strap with the small plastic ball, but put the plastic cusion on the inside of the elbow, as you know it's the opposite of tennis elbow. Put it on when using your elbow, if you have to.
I got it from playing pickleball, which is similar to paddle tennis.
Advil helps too. It may take awile to go away, about a month or so, for me.
It's strange, I could windsurf, but not shave, it hurt like hell if I bent my elbow in a certain direction. It's basically tendonitis.
The exercising stuff, like the twisty bar, did not help, infact seemed to make it worse, so I stayed away from exercising. My doctor, said resting was better for it. |

The tape could help. I would follow your docs advise and think about a specialist. Most of us here know how to sail but aren't doctors.
The NSAID family, Advil , ibuprofen , will help reduce swelling , they are pain and anti inflammatory.. Drugs, you should consult a profession if you want to take for
longer term, that will have some side effects internally.
I think I would use ice a few times daily.
All these can return return you to your former self.
I would use the NSAIDs on my trip , and moderate the sailing. _________________ K4 fins

If the shaving is still painful, we can all grow beards _________________ K4 fins

I don't know anything about KT tape, but make sure that your exercises include eccentric exercises with the TheraBand FlexBar. It worked amazingly well when I got tennis elbow from windsurfing during a Bonaire trip. The tendonites stuck around for more than a year, but was gone after 3 days of FlexBar exercises. I have also heard from others that it worked well for them (although it may take longer). They have 2 sets of exercises, one for tennis elbow and one for golfer's elbow.
There are more details and links (including one to a clinical study) on my blog. My problem was tennis elbow, but scientific studies have shown that FlexBar exercises also help with golfer's elbow. |

I've got the tennis elbow problem right now in my right arm, and it has been nagging me for a few months. I can still windsurf without too much difficulty, but it's a pain doing simple things like grabbing a pitcher of water and pouring it. Also, it's often painful sleeping at night. Which color TheraBand FlexBar did you buy? |

Tape, copper bracelet, this kind of stuff is witch doctory IMO, it will work if you believe it will work but otherwise it's a waste of time.
Do you know when they do MRI's of anyone our age that has worked physical labor or participated in a lot of sports they will nearly always find the muscles of the rotator cuff structure full of tears and partial tears, most hips having some degree of osteoarthritis and spinal cords with bulging discs. Pain in these places for some but most having none or little.
One thing I recently discovered was occupational therapy at the local hospital being much better option than the various physical therapists I had visited over the years. |
