I own a 5.0 Sailworks Revolution from about 2007ish. I just acquired a 5.0 Retro (2008 I think) in a package deal. It's does not make sense to keep both sails. Which should I keep and why? I'm leaning towards keeping the 5.0 Retro and selling the 5.0 Revo. As you see below, I also own a 4.8 Revo so there is some overlap between those two as well.

My entire quiver is:
Revos: 3.6, 4.0, 4.8, (5.0)
Retros: (5.0), 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.5

I'm 140lbs. My wife is 115lbs.

The 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 Retros are mostly my wife's "light wind" sails. She is just at the learning to waterstart level. I'm usually on the 7.5 or 6.5 Retro unless the wind picks up. If the wind DOES pick up then my wife drops to the smaller Revos and I drop to her higher wind Retros. If it's REALLY howling then she stays on the beach and I use her small Revos. Laughing

That choice depends on how you sail with your 5.0. Googling Sailworks Retro vs Revo should help you choose. In a nutshell, as you know, the Retro is biased more towards blasting back and forth, the Revo more towards handling/maneuvering.

Revos are wave durable, whereas Retros really aren't. That's a good thing to keep in mind over time.

Keep the Revo

Consider the condition of each which you are in a position to consider.

IMO
From 6.0 down I want wave sail character

Why not rig'm both side by side, and take them for consecutive rides.
See which one you like (or the smarter move would be to have your wife ride them) and sell the other. I will say that a 5.0 to 5.5
Retro is very redundant, and a 4.8 Revo to 5.5 Retro is a perfect drop,
so you could get rid of both 5.0s.

As Steve says, if you're wave sailing, Retros are not the best option under any size or circumstance. I love my Retros, but I don't take'm in waves.

p.s. you never know when you're gonna go through a panel, and it's sure
handy to just wip out another sail the same size and keep on ride'n.

That would certainly be the best way to see which one or both to sell. To do the best side-by-side would require two masts and booms of similar size. I only have one so it would require a rig/derig making it more challenging. Still might be interesting to try though.

At this point we are not doing a lot of wave sailing. I would classify us more as freeriders. However, as the fall comes along with the wind and waves here in Vancouver, maybe this will change.

Since your wife shares the rig components as well,
This is a complicated question.

It will take 10' or less to swap masts to test both in the same wind, be good practice .

The 5.0 s while the same size are distinctly different, should be easy to suss your requirements.

The really best answer is let your wife pick

2nd best is keep both

best scenario to keep both:
as the winds get stronger you 2 may end up on similar sizes sails?
waves are part of your lives? back up sails for most common sizes will keep you sailing if you crash one.
pack rat like me

scenarios to ditch one or the other:
always on different sizes
never sail waves

The 4.8and the 5.0 Revo's are so close to each other that keeping both is redundant and will just be more clutter in the vehicle. The Reto is a freeride sail and it's intended use is different enough from the 4.8 Revo that I would keep it and sell the Revo that is the most worn out.
