Thinking more about doing it on sand than pavement or grass. I've got plenty of old gear that would work, instead of trashing the good stuff, and know I could make a board or spring the money for a Terrasail or Turfdog one. Talking low tide- Chapin thru Mayflower, light wind days and winter/ off season fun as im not a cold water sailor. Looks like good practice and exercise.
So just wondering why no one ever seems to be out doing this on Cape? has it already been tried out there and doesn't work, maybe sand too soft? Other?
Any thoughts, advice appreciated...

I believe land sailing with a windsurfing rig was invented by Baron Arnaud de Rosnay when he created his Speedsail board in 1977 for sailing on sand.
The three main varities of boards for land sailing with a windsurfing rig use a. inflatable tires larger than 10" diameter such as the Speedsail board, b. inflatable tires smaller than 10" diameter such as mountainboards, and c. skateboard wheels.

Here are two Speedsail videos.

This one shows a Speedsail board being sailed across America from south to north. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2os1yI4dSiM

mountainboard sailing on sand at Hilton Head SC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9ET__QnHz4
Similar mountainboard on a parking lot:

TurfDog with swiveling wheels

Carveboard sailing on a parking lot

A lot of videos show "skate sailing" on boards that use skateboard wheels. That doesn't work on sand. I don't recommend parking lot sailing on skateboard wheels. They are too easily stopped by very small obstacles.
be stopped by small obstacles.

My land sailors include three varieties of mountainboards, plus a 3 wheeler that has 16" diameter bicycle wheels.

Nice riding WaterKook! and thanks for all the links DelCarpenter. Nice to see some vids, especially the sand ones, that I'm really interested in trying. I'm gonna get a mountainboard style and try to get out on the Cape, low tide flats, later fall/ winter after my water season ends.
Thanks again for your help guys...

steveio, I think getting one of the Norblan Speedsail boards from fox would be the best solution for you. It was specifically designed for sailing on sand with a windsurfing rig. That can't be said about almost anything else.

fox, I am going to buy one of your Norblans as per previous email. See today's email.

steveio, you are welcome to come try a Norblan on beach/sand that does work. Come up some time for low tide, south wind. I'm 90 minutes north of Boston.

Chapin-Mayflower sand is tough. Its soft and has ridges (just like ruffles!)
We have tried many types of vehicles there with no real success.
The 3 wheeled Trike with big balloon tires did work but was a rough ride

Isobars, for parking lots, not cornfields. There are 9 parking lots big enough for land sailing within 2-4 miles of my home. Those are go-to places when a session must be short.
