|
|
Hi,
I picked up an old F2 comet looking to get back into Windsurfing after 20+ years.
The board doesn't have any foot straps, just some funky receptacles that look like foot straps were inserted into.
I think it'd be nice to find some originals, but seems fat chance on that.
Probably the best idea is to epoxy over them and put in the screw inserts that people have been using? Not sure what's out there and figured someone would have a recommendation on a good way to do this??
Oh - I should add that I do have machining capabilities and thought about making some inserts to place into those receptacles and screwing the foot straps to the inserts. But, that seems like a lot of futzing around for something that might not work that great.
Mark
PS I did find a couple posts about foot straps, but mostly dead ends here:

Its a cobra flap strap. Aitken used them as well. The rubber part wears out and snaps. I will look is the archives.

Hey, what did you end up doing? I pulled my old Strato off the shelf for the first time in 15 years yesterday and found the same thing... the straps are like cured putty!
Did you find straps? or did you insert mounting thingies?

No offense but you'd be better off investing in a newer board that will out perform the Comet in every aspect. Check out the Windance consignment area, Big Winds or Second Winds. ANYTHING made in the last 5-7 years will be better than investing any money in the Comet. Besides, all the new components (sails, etc) are designed to be used with modern boards. Just my 2 cents worth.

Can't you just fold some webbing over a wooden dowell of the diameter you need, cut to length, and insert into the slots? Tightly, of course.
Or fill the cavity with epoxy/chopped cloth mix, allow to cure, then drill for footstrap screws?
Are you using the Comet for planing conditions in higher winds?
