Yesterday was out for a short session and stopped due to time constraints, but also due to cramps in both calves.
I am guilty of NOT doing many factors, but am just wondering which is the most important factor to correct:

eat - guilty - did not eat all day and went out in late pm (had one choco bar)
drink water - guilty - only coffee and soda
electrolytes - same as above
warm ups - none
warm downs - none

what is best strategy if one knows one is going out in the pm ??
banana, egg and slice of bread at breakfast + leg warm ups ??
just electrolytes and water one hour before ??
other ??

thanks in advance

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

In my younger years, I would sail for hours on end and often get horrendous cramps either during or after sailing. I eventually learned that bringing and drinking lots of water was key to preventing them. In the summer, I would commonly bring two gallons of water for a day trip and often end up drinking most of it. Bring more than you think you need. Definitely stay away from coffee.

Yes drink plenty of water! Electrolytes are important too, particularly magnesium, potassium and sodium. Plain water is a bit boring, I add apple cider vinegar and a little honey, taste is like lemonade. Others swear by pickle juice!

Getting them in both calves is bad news! I once had this happen while swimming and could not kick at all, Could not stand or walk when I got back to shore. People looked at me kind of funny as I made my way to the car on my knees.

Seriously, one beer. We did tests using water, gatorade, and beer. Least cramps with one beer.

Works for me, but so does Cranberry Juice, V-8 and Gatorade.
Beer is more fun though. ;*)

Relax.
You know how to windsurf, so don't get excited and stress your body.
