Starboard has North American prices listed on their site excluding VAT. VAT? What is that? I know, I looked it up, it's value added tax. Why are they listing the price without VAT? Do I have a choice of not paying it? If I don't have a choice it should be included in the price. What's the deal here?

VAT does not apply to sales within the United States.

US citizens who purchase as new in a VAT jurisdiction (like most of Europe) must pay the VAT at the time of purchase but apply for a refund at the time of exit. (At least that is how I understand it to work.)

If that's the case it's good news. The prices I noticed on a couple of boards were lower, like 15 percent lower than last year.

http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/business/vat/what-is-vat

It applies to Euro , EU , community's only. The VAT is normally included in prices , say for Austria. Sales to any country outside the union , the VAT should be deducted, as Canada, USA.

Since North America has no VAT tax agreement , a bit of oxymoron statement, by Starboard.

Britain who voted to leave the EU in June , has 2 years to actually do so, giving I understand it. The vote is referred to as BREXIT, OR BRITIAN EXIT IN LONG HAND.

Probably TMI.
