I find the relationship between the the board and how the sails feels interesting. I have a 3-year-old Retro 7.0. It never seemed to feel balanced on my old Naish Titan 125. I experimented with downhaul and mast track--it always felt pitchy. Seemed like the mast track was never far enough forward.
Then last year I got my RRD Firemove 122. Bingo--the Retro felt just fantastic. One hand control, super balance. And the track on that board is way further back than on the Naish. I guess it's a complicated formula involving mast track, board width, fin size.......
But I will say that my Retro 7.0 always feels better rigged for max wind, even in light to moderate wind (looseness extending beyond the cog). That's a whole lot of downhaul! Definitely jibes better. Don't feel I give up any low end performance. |
