So much nonsense from the right. The immigration policies now in place stem at least in part from the time of Ronald Reagan. At the behest of California agriculture interests—largely corporate and nearly uniformly Republican—they left the door wide open for agricultural workers. At least part of that was to supress agricultural wages and undermine the Farmworker’s union. Democrats didn’t much like those policies because of their ties to unions and the farmworkers.

Other industries, meat packing, construction, and hotels—took advantage of those policies to hire immigrants without really checking for citizenship. Subsequent administrations—from both parties—made enforcement of immigration a relatively low priority.

Years passed and there were millions of immigrants in this country without permission. Many had been here for more than a decade, many had been brought here as children and had no memory of the country their parents had left. The consensus in the country—represented by a bipartisan bill that passed the senate—was that we should recognize the value that these people had contributed to the country, and create a pathway, long and difficult, to citizenship. Twenty lunatics from the Tea Party killed that consensus. Then the most corrupt POS to ever enter politics thought he could run for President by demonizing those folks.

I know NW and many others don’t put much stock in studying history. Perhaps you all are senile enough to not notice when you begin reliving it.

mac, this ain't the 70's, this ain't the 80's, this ain't the 90's or the early 2000's. You can play your historical harp all you want, but these days we have large caravans from other countries other than Mexico, marching towards our border one after another.
But you want to keep your head buried in historical sand, believing that nothing is different today, than it has always been.
You are either truly blind, or you're faking it for your political beliefs. It's a bad look for you either way.

NW, with his hero Trump, could care less for the rule of law. Thus the laws that exist, and how they got there, are treated with contempt. Much less anyone that actually understands them The perfect GOP voter--uninformed and uninterested, and contemptuous of the rule of law.

moron walls are stuck in the past. We now have shovels, ladders and so on to scale walls.

As I mentioned not long ago I was in line to drive back into USA and a ladder went up 500 yards from the checkpoint and people were climbing over and border patrol went there to apprehend them. Then 2 minutes later a ladder went up 300 yards from there and people/humans climbed over and border patrol could not stop that ladders people from getting past because they were too busy with the people from the first one.

What's that, you're selling ladders off the back of your truck at the border? Have you no shame?

Who's stuck in the past with all those primitive ways to get across a modern wall? Sorry those won't work with a modern wall, you'll need to do this, of course the landing might be a little rough.
Good luck with your catapult rental business.

So....ya got nothin'. Not surprised. What you call the "past" is a whole bunch of people in our country today that need to be addressed.

Here'as a little help. Diane Ravitch has written and researched extensively on public education. She was high in the Bush I administration. Here's her take on Devos:

Quote:
Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is appointing as education secretary Betsy DeVos, the billionaire Republican who is a major champion and founding funder of the modern education privatization movement. Bringing no significant experience in public education, DeVos is a billionaire member of a family that has cultivated extensive power and influence in conservative circles thanks to its fortune from the Amway Corporation.

Trump’s appointment immediately provoked objection, with writer and historican Diane Ravitch slamming DeVos as someone who “does not hide her contempt for the public schools.”

There are certainly well-meaning people who support charter schools, and places where the schools are such a mess that charters make sense. But there are also people lining up to take the money from public education and establish separate schools that don't accept students with issues. Like my grandson.

Look Mac, public schools have been failing for decades. The fact that DeVos doesn't like public schools makes her smart. There will always be a place for autistic children and other troubled kids. Not even I, who's right of Genhgis Khan wants to fail our children.
