We retrieve both flotsam and jetsam ... heck, often Sam himself ... bobbing down the Columbia most summertime windy days. We just drag all the various components to shore, try to match them up, and hope the result is a complete set ... rider, board, and engine. Sometimes we're successful, sometimes we're not.
It's a jungle out there. |

Hey Andy,
I may be approaching Captain Obvious here but it seems like using a sharpie & writing name & phone number on both board & kite would help. I've collected at least 4 boards the last couple of years at Sherman & just throw them in the pile at Indian Bob's, the park administrator's place. Two years ago when I was working an ABK camp at Hood River I rescued a kiter who had lost his kite-it got tangled up in the bridge-and I towed him to shore on the Oregon side. His kite freed itself & headed to the Washington side. If there was a name & phone number on the kite I think it would have significantly increased his chances of getting it back.
