OK...It's totally shitty outside....anybody whose chasing it....good on you.

But lets do an East Coast foil mind-fck.

I mean, I know that they are out therre.....$ is definitely gonna hold me back for a while.....And yeah the industry is gonna push it because we are on to the next thing now...

But assuming I could get one on Cape Cod for free...

I would want a SUP/Sail combo foil

But I don't know WHERE I would use it....

1) Not near people
2) Bay stuff around here is full of eel-grass etc and shoals
3) Waves are Beach Break, so swell riding not that good.
4) So like Mid-Nantucket Sound...but if it;s not blowing hard, then the swell doesn't build

i just don't know....Jerry's gonna get one ...he can't resist a new toy

Ah, dang. I had been successfully ignoring foiling, but your post got me thinking about it and watching videos of it. I think I might need to try it. Just when I thought I had all the equipment I would ever need ...

For CC, seems like the Bay would be fine at high tide, for baf'ing, and keeping a bit offshore. Ocean-side, if you don't ride too far in. Might be pretty good for Chesapeake crossings on N/S when there is swell.

Have Kook post his feelings / review on the forum, once he makes the purchase and gives it a whirl.

Kook has done it in Baja two years in a row now. Just carrying the thing (board with foil) to the water was enough to make me not want one in my life. Never mind transporting it on a car. It would not fit in my van.
I am out on this one.
I will watch the rest of you have fun with it. Also what happens when you hit a great white with that thing?

here on long island...the great saouth bay or south shore is the place for wind in the summer time....BUT...weeds, weeds, weeds..in the bay...and don't know about foil in ocean. then there are other spots...too shallow....or impossible at low tide.

Still think they are cool...and want one...just not right now.

The Chesapeake makes total sense to me.
I used to sail out of Herring Bay.
Would be some good swell riding.....until you hit a crab-pot

Also the Gulf Coast might work pretty well

Still scratching for what would work around cape Cod though

there was a kiter foil board out at chapin last fall. had to wait for high tide though, so all the swell was gone flat on the sandbar, so I don't get it.

I don't get it either. Seems like a pain in the ass.

it should be possible to foil in less wind than it takes to plane on a non-foiling board.

most of the new less expensive foils come apart, so transporting them will not be an issue.

a few have shorter masts for learning, or sailing in shallower water

I am planning to use one on long island sound - plenty deep in most places.., weeds are usually not an issue.., and often not enough wind to plane on a non-foiling board.
