Delivering a boat and trailer from CT to Wareham first thing Sunday AM. Wouldn't mind getting a sail in around noon. Right now showing SSW wind 20-25 and big surf (7.5ft@10s). Ideas ? LOWish tide at horseneck. Is that the best option ? Might be straight onshore. What is too much size for horseneck ?

What is Demarest Loyd state park ? I see it on the map and it looks like a lot of sandbars.

I sailed at Demarest Loyd once many years ago. IIRC, it was sailable at high tide, but too shallow at low tide.

Wave or sail size?
I assume you mean wave, if it's onshore, it can be tough to get out. Some of us sail from Gooseberry Island over the causeway, launch on the right side. Can be a tough walk through the rocks, but once out, you are past the break.
Sunday doesn't look good at this point, maybe the Cape will be better.

Thx for the info on demarest. Keep it on the list for off season spots.

Good call with launching from the spit. Forecast going to hell anyways. If it keeps dropping maybe a sup

Sat image of Demarest, looks like it has potential with a good south swell, and High tide needed I guess.

i looked at this place in person once, and the shallows are huge slabs of rock like around newport and not sandbars...

The islands mostly block the south swell. I think it would have to be huge (15+), and have to have a little west to have any chance. Never sailed there though, but do sail Horseneck frequently.

Is Horseneck one of the beaches shown in "A ocean state of mind" movie?

I see how the islands are closing in on Demerest, even though it's only 3 or 4 miles from horseneck.
I just delivered the boat and brought no gear, some smart family politics. Was blowing in Wareham at 9am.
