Israel accused of planting mysterious spy devices near the White House

The U.S. government concluded within the past two years that Israel was most likely behind the placement of cellphone surveillance devices that were found near the White House and other sensitive locations around Washington, according to three former senior U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter.

But unlike most other occasions when flagrant incidents of foreign spying have been discovered on American soil, the Trump administration did not rebuke the Israeli government, and there were no consequences for Israel’s behavior, one of the former officials said.

The miniature surveillance devices, colloquially known as “StingRays,” mimic regular cell towers to fool cellphones into giving them their locations and identity information. Formally called international mobile subscriber identity-catchers or IMSI-catchers, they also can capture the contents of calls and data use.

The devices were likely intended to spy on President Donald Trump, one of the former officials said, as well as his top aides and closest associates — though it’s not clear whether the Israeli efforts were successful.

Trump is reputed to be lax in observing White House security protocols. POLITICO reported in May 2018 that the president often used an insufficiently secured cellphone to communicate with friends and confidants. The New York Times subsequently reported in October 2018 that “Chinese spies are often listening” to Trump’s cellphone calls, prompting the president to slam the story as “so incorrect I do not have time here to correct it.” (A former official said Trump has had his cellphone hardened against intrusion.)

Trump admin faces subpoena over ‘urgent’ whistleblower complaint
09/16/19 09:20 AM—UPDATED 09/16/19 09:44 AM

Once in a while, important news breaks late on a Friday night. Take this report from the Wall Street Journal, for example, which reached the public at 11:03 pm (ET).

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff issued a subpoena to the nation’s top intelligence official Friday night, seeking to force him to turn over a whistleblower complaint that the intelligence community’s inspector general has allegedly deemed a matter of “urgent concern.”

The identity of the whistleblower and the nature of the complaint weren’t revealed. But in a news release Friday night, Mr. Schiff (D., Calif.) said the inspector general had determined the complaint to be credible and notified his House committee of the matter on Monday.

Okay, this case wasn’t that mysterious, but now we have confirmation on who the likely culprit is.

Last week, House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff subpoenaed Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire regarding a mysterious whistleblower complaint from a U.S. intelligence official. According to reports, the complaint had to do with “serious or flagrant” abuse related to intelligence.

In a statement, Schiff wrote, “The committee — and the American people — must know why, in violation of law, a whistleblower complaint is being concealed, whether the underlying conduct involves the president or those around him, and whether the White House is involved in trying to cover up this authorized disclosure.”

Now, The Washington Post is reporting that the complaint does involve the president. Surprise, surprise!

The whistleblower complaint that has triggered a tense showdown between the U.S. intelligence community and Congress involves President Trump’s communications with a foreign leader, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a “promise” that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community, said the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Honestly, this is like finding out your dog, and not your kid’s math tutor, was the one who crapped in your shoes — but hey, it’s nice to have solid confirmation.

And three guesses who the foreign leader in question was.

The complaint was filed with Atkinson’s office on Aug. 12, a date on which Trump was at his golf resort in New Jersey. White House records indicate that Trump had had conversations or interactions with at least five foreign leaders in the preceding five weeks.

Among them was a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the White House initiated on July 31. Trump also received at least two letters from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during the summer, describing them as “beautiful” messages.

again in the testimony trump was on a call with his million-dollar donor anointed ambassador donor who was on an unsecured phone in a foreign country that the russians have published conversations before that they intercepted. So obviously Trump wanted the russians to know he was doing what they ordered him to do.

and again Pelosi has invited trump to send any materials in and testify himself to counter any of these peoples testimonies. And needless to say Trump has reported his bone spurs hurt too much to submit any documents of even allow any peoplel to testify.
