Huge Columbia Basin LOW impacts even Baja winds today

Hi Gang,

Big winds today! And the animation below for 5PM shows the deep deep low pressure in the Columbia Basin is jazzing up the wind not just in the Gorge but much of the western USA.

Note how the strong winds hitting the S. F. Bay Area today slide up the Central Valley and turn towards our low pressure.

Then check how the North Pacific High's surface NW winds turn into Southern California and then head across the Great Basin towards the Columbia Basin.

And check it out.. wind heads our way even from Baja.

And most importantly for us lots of wind from the pacific rips through the Gorge on the way to that same Columbia Basin low pressure.

The interesting thing is that overall the winds are stronger than the Gorge in many of theses areas today. But what the animation does not show is the magic of the venturi created by the walls of the Gorge.
