Are there any WindSUPs with footstraps for windsurfing or alternatively has anyone figured out a way of DIYing footstraps into/onto the material?
Edit: on the inflatable windsups

I do not find a need for footstraps on my windSUPs and so do not have them. I do admit when the wind is over 14 knots that they do become desirable. Have not found a way to have them magically appear at that speed.
Someone told me they added stick-on foot straps to their windSUP. Apparently a common item that kiters use on kite boards. So check out Kiteboard shops, retail or on-line, and see what they have. |

You can insert footstrap plugs onto any poly or epoxy/styro SUP.
An inflatable is harder, but there are kits to glue on tabs and rings, which you can attach the footstrap to.
However, most any SUP over 9' long doesn't need footstraps exept for winds over 17 mph and choppy waters.
SUP's just don't go as fast and the extra weight holds them down in the moderate chop you're supposed to be sailing in. |

I sailed my SeaLion windSUP without any straps for an entire season in the Gorge, including totally powered on a 3.2 on days averaging in the upper 30s (mph). Ya get used to it, and the skills translated into my windsurfing. |

qwerty is asking if there's footstraps on inflatable Wind SUP's...
Have you looked at the Starboard site... cause you'll see em there.
But like most said... you don't need them... they just add cost, weight, and they get in the way. _________________ Greg

I'm not sure what this post is supposed to mean. Probably written in a big hurry, which is fine. But it's full of incomplete sentences that don't explain anything, or finish the point that you're trying to make... and no capitalization... it's hard to read... and doesn't make a lot of sense. Mine are bad sometimes too with mis-spelled words, etc. (Is there a spell-check on iW?)
Anyway, although it looks like this was written in a hurry... time was spent to include lots of "links"... so I glanced through them. "John I." is an expert and very experienced windsurfer... and it looks like his passion is wave sailing on the Florida coat... or at least, that's what he does most. (BTW, very nice article written by James about you!! )
So now I understand a little more of his post above (although most won't take the time to figure it out, like I did).
But John - did you read qwerty's original question (and or, his question in the thread adjacent to this one)?
He is a novice windsurfer... and he's asking about inflatable windsurfers. And although there are some higher performance inflatable windsurfers out there, that will plane like a hard board (and they come with footstraps). That is not what he asking about.
So all your pics of "experts and former world cup champions" sailing hard board windsups... don't really apply to qwerety.
On the other hand - It's appropriate for novices to shop for boards they can "grow into later"... and that certainly has merit. But people on this thread were just trying to answer his specific question. None of us know each other... so it's tough to give advice without knowing way more about the person and their goals.
Just my 2 cents _________________ Greg
