Great video! Anyone who has not been in that situation would never believe it if verbally described. This video shows clearly what it is like. |

At least the waves were handleable, 2-3' max.
Those conditions, if you gotta go out right there, not to the left nor the right, you head carry the rig to shoulder deep water, push away from the shore and the kelp, THEN consider waterstarting. |

I only wish the kelp up here in Malibu would tear our like that. Wavesailing is impossible here. |

I have to ask, where was the board in all that drama? In the linked video, it ended like all was lost. In the follow-up video, you see the sail miraculously pulled out, but no board. The outcome suggests that the guy entered the water to rinse his sail. |

Use weed fins on a slightly bigger board to wave sail IN the kelp beds.
We used to do that to sail SteamerLane, usually well inside the kelp beds. |

Claudio was riding a wave and ended up in the Kelp Monster's grip at the end of his waveride.
The tendon eventually broke and both the board and sail were recovered. This was almost 15 minutes later. Amazing enough the only damage was a broken tendon.. |

Guy has great patience. I would have thrown a fit. |

He was probably too exhausted to throw a fit. Kelp wrestling takes it all out of ya. |
