Foil specific inflatable boards are happening now and just getting better. Add on one of the new traveling rigs (fits in a rolling bag) and you are golden.

You can launch into some very questionable wind unlike a kite as well.

For kitefoiling, a 7 meter ram air non water relaunchable is the most powerful for the lightest breezes, it appears. You can send it in 7 mph breezes, keeping you up on foil, and hang on in close to 20, if you go upwind and downwind.

I really like the looks of the Slingshot Flyer for light winds. It's not a cheap date at $2200. There's no way to demo any of this which is really a leap of faith. July in the gorge as been pretty non stop anyway.

You'd swim that rig back pretty often around here.

FYI I can hold only a 7.4m RAF sail up to 20 mph on the foil if I run deep both ways. Needs a solid 10 to get going though.

No kite can fly when the lulls reach less than 4 mph.
But, you can send it in 5+, so it's fine.
The course racer's are using 7.5 meter full cam sails for winds of 15-28 mph, and do just fine, it seems. But they're using Formula boards and mostly Zaicheck, NP, or F-4 foils.
I"m on a 5 meter sail and 78 liter board rigging next to them.

I'm not a racer. Just an old guy who wants to putter along and eventually jibe in swells. It seems like the racers are pushing the development in the sport. I think swell riding is best done slow since swells are slow. I'm not good enough at jibing try to sheet in and turn down one. The foiling kiters at my site are very adept at going straight down wind making turns. If I could get just a little of that going: bliss.

Seems the foiling jibes can occur with Freeride or wave sails, but harder to do with slalom/race sails. Quick flip is the reason, or ducks.

Upgraded to 2004 Northwave ZXs. I'll use a 5.2 in the evenings, but it's usually much smaller. The sail flip is not the issue. Everything else has to be just right: the water the wind the arc the feet. Tragically hard.

The video of the mythical foiling duck jibe is beautiful. He has such foil control.
Thanks for posting it.
I watched the other how to jibe video. If I went into one that hot I would shit my wetsuit.
There has to be a progressing between WFO and the hula.
Maybe a little more speed.
Maybe foil down a swell.
I hate to cross the river but it sounds like the progressive riders are not at Stevenson.

Nice video, but um, isn't text that just the anatomy of a step jibe? There's got to be more to it on the foil, different balance point to keep it foiling, etc.

I guess time will tell for all of use who are learning.
