Long range forecasts are starting to agree on a fluke -- i.e., some wind -- next weekend. Might be our first chance to sail (safely) w/o neoprene, as the heat wave has raised river temps to fish-killing levels.
Sorry, MFC, but this fin just looks too problematic to even try for my application:
I've got to believe it moves the CLR way back, turns the board into a can- (leg)-opener, and won't fit into a good-fitting board bag. Its drawn-out chord length looks like it would slow the board significantly. I'd be more willing to gamble on it if the fin were moved forward on its base. It's probably biased towards heavy weeds, whereas I'm facing occasional strings or clumps, primarily when the fishing nets are out. (The extremely thick, anchored, omnipresent weed line 100 feet offshore is a different story, but we just jump in and pull them off by hand after launching and don't cross them again until returning to shore. One guy snapped a mast pumping through them.) |
