OK I've seen videos, but never anyone making one. How does one progress to making them? My current theory is to lay the board back down on the water or close to the water. I can make a few of these by doing the hula on the slow moving board.
Foil-Academy talks about this but I can't relate to what Tony is saying. A step by step plan to progress would be nice.
I doubt I'll wake up one day and be capable.

If you say no one had done it, how can you ask how it can be done?
But of course, someone has stayed up on foil the entire jibe and exit, you'd think.
Maybe ride a windswell out, as you're exiting the jibe?
Maybe use a shorter boom non cam sail?
Maybe get more speed going in, like a windsurfer?
Maybe do a duck jibe? I think that is one of the keys.

You might want to go up to the Event Site, or the Leur Jensen launch and hang for a bit. There are a number of foilers there who make it look easy. Dale C. comes to mind, sails out of the Event site, and also Tony L. he sails off Leur Jensen and you can get some tips from them.

Watch

Tony L
Colson Zach

Killing it!!

Watching these two has me re-interested in windsurfing after a 17 year hiatus. Smoooooooth planning jibes, playing in Rufus swell. 5 o clock sessions in light wind.

Super cool.

The video of the mythical foiling duck jibe is beautiful. He has such foil control.
Thanks for posting it.
I watched the other how to jibe video. If I went into one that hot I would shit my wetsuit.
There has to be a progressing between WFO and the hula.
Maybe a little more speed.
Maybe foil down a swell.
I hate to cross the river but it sounds like the progressive riders are not at Stevenson.

I am amazed at the growth and progression in windsurf foiling that has taken place at the Event Site/Waterfront Park in the past few months.
At the end of last season it seemed like there were maybe 10-12 windfoilers in the Gorge and only 3-4 of them that could foil through a jibe.
Now there are probably 30-40 total and at least 10 that are consistent jibers.
It used to be a novelty just to be able to cruise back and forth in light winds on the foil. Now people are foiling upwind and downwind and carving turns in all conditions.
I really hope someone is brave enough to attempt the Blowout this weekend on the wind foil to see how they stack up against the kiters.

The appeal to me of kite and windsurf foiling is that it gives the 5 oclock post work session some real teeth, as opposed to the "Dude, shoulda been here earlier" frustration, which has led many to focus more on mtb'ing.

Once I get my kite foil figured out, I plan to add wind foiling to the mix. Looks too fun not to. Last time I windsurfed more than once in a season was 2001! I also see both disciplines opening up true light wind fun. Up until now, you heeded huge kites/sails, and boards and even at that the experience for me was kinda meh. Not so with a foil. So amazing how little wind you need to get up and go--really go!

Exciting stuff

Eric
