The San Francisco Bay Areas own Tyson Poore and Wyatt Miller are competing this week at the Nationals in Berkeley. Let's welcome them home and support the competition! Great chance to see top level racing and freestyle action!

Unofficial report, I was reading a book mostly......
Very up and down winds, mostly gusting to around 18, but some gusts up above the gap in the pier around 22 or so.
I think they got off 3 Formula/Foil races, Foil winning and second it appears, can't really tell because the downwind mark was at the gap in the pier, pretty far upwind from Lordships. Xavier looking good on mid 7 and Foil, Mike Percy looking good on maybe a 6.3 and Foil.
Took a long break for course sailors to recover, while the winds were pretty good (one guy planing 90% on a 6.5 and 120 RRD on the inside), and slalom guys head out in a long string. Took Can9 and Xavier maybe 7 minutes to make the start boat, but half the fleet of 16 (??) appeared to be slogging and 4 never make it to the start. Another half hour goes by, and the one slalom race starts with Ty winning on 7.8 and half the fleet losing a plane by the 4th mark.
Kinda a good one slalom race actually, as a Severne rider, maybe Wyatt, maybe Soheil, took the lead at the 1st mark and held it for one ball. Looked like Charlie had the start, but was slogging on his 7, so never got up to speed until Tyson rounded the 3rd mark in the lead.
Tyson and Wyatt raced the course racking on Slingshot foils, and used slalom gear for the slalom.
Looking like another fluky day at Berkeley today, high clouds and up and down winds.
They really should consider holding the slalom racing at the Emeryville side of the South Sailing Basin below the Lordships, so everyone can make it there within a reasonable amount of time.

Yes indeed. That was a tough first 3 days of the Nationals. What did we do to deserve this! Just a bit frustrated as you can imagine as the winds did something they NEVER do in august. Send us rain instead of wind.
Nevertheless, we got off 4 course races and 2 slalom races so far. Enough to call it a competition.
The Hydrofoil Pro tour couldn't event get one race off on Friday. Who would have thunk it.
Today is the long distance portion of the event which will take place along side the HydroFoil Pro Tour. US National racers will meet at the Saint Francis Yacht club for a 1pm skippers meeting and will compete in the historical Bay Challenge long distance race which is scheduled to start at 3pm.
The Bay Challenge will start in front of Crissy Field. We sail upwind to a weather mark set inside the south tower then race down to the top of the Berkeley pier and back to the StFYC. Racers are free to roam the bay to find the quickest route.
Join us at the StFYC or at Crissy Field to watch the start and finish to see who will be the overall USNationals champion of the 3 discipline title.
In the meantime, the USNats freestyle event will be taking place at the Berkeley event site.
Kuddos to the racers who came out and raced, waited, raced and waited. Regardless of the wind, it has been a fun event with great organizing, RC'ing and socializing.
BIG thanks to Weyman and his team for his time and effort in organizing this event and to the Berkeley Yacht club for hosting it.
Pray for wind for today's long distance race.
Sail On
