Day 1. No wind and HOT. Checked out all the shops. Talked to Windance about tomorrows' "end of season bbq party" which I was looking forward to. Their response was..."We're having a bbq party tomorrow?". So, no year end bbq at Windance tomorrow. Bummer. Ignore their website. Cool store though with friendly helpful staff.

Gary at the Gorge Surf Shop was very friendly. He recognized us from this Thread. A warm welcome from him and Harvey.

On the plus side, I scored a brand new Chinook carbon fiber Extension for $48 bucks at 2nd wind. Not a necessity but hard to pass up at that price. A good warmup for the swap meet. Sunday.

Day 1 part 2.

Wanted to add that we received a tour of the Northwave sail loft. Pretty cool. We are looking foward to their gybe clinic tomorrow morning. Appearantly they guarantee wind for the clinic.

Yeh, Welcome to the high wind capital of the world ;*)

The owner at Windance Dave Nunn is taking his daughter to college so no party this year.
It does look hot and windless for the next 3 days, but I'd look to Stevie
for some potential planable West wind today around 3PM. Take your 6M sail.

Jim Oaks is a Gorge legend, and the jibe clinic should be good.

p.s. Gary freak'n rocks!

I think the Hook might be TOO mellow. There's a balance between off the hook and boredom. Appearanlty the Hook is "The Kiddy Pool". We have a lot to learn but I think the kiddy pool might not be the best place at our level.

I read somewhere the Event site is $5 bucks? Is that still the applicable? If so, is that per person or vehicle? Where do you pay your entrance if applicable?

Thanks

The Kiddy Pool is inside the Hook.
the outside of the hook is more challenging.

I read the Event Site is up to $8 per day this year.
You can pay at the entrance (if it isn't full).

It looks like we should have decent west winds for Sunday afternoon
Still plenty of fun things to do here without wind

In the old days there were two "gorge guides" that focused exclusively on windsurfing. Now there are multiple "tourist" guides to the gorge that only have small sections dedicated to the wind sports.
You can find them at the library or most coffee shops.

You best be careful amigo, or I'll throw down with my own stats and prove
myself the bigger wind whore, taking the prize from you.

I'll be here through mid October. ;*)

-Craig

p.s. seriously, are you still in town, it sounded like you'd hit the road already.

Sure I'm still in town, but not for long, windsurfing season is about to begin back home. You would love those south winds we get on Champlain Lake.

And I have a dentist appointment soon Wink

Did you check out their discounted wet suit rack? I've bought ~ a dozen new drysuits, steamers, wetsuits, shorties, longies, tops, bottoms, etc of many brands and styles there over the years at 20 to 30 cents on the dollar. I usually can't find the blems that put them on the blowout rack. And dig through the CGWA trailer racks Sunday AM for even better wetsuit deals on scores of suits from junk to new stuff.

I think Sailworks is still having their end of season BBQ party Sunday at 6pm.
Unless, of course, they are all still out foiling until dusk...

Come introduce yourself if you see us at the swap meet. My wife is an attractive asian and I'll be wearing a blue Hollister shirt with a surfer graphic. We're heading back home after the swap.
