Stuff that is readily available and not too much of an issue to acquire. A lot of stuff appears to be more readily available in Europe and can be a bit of an ordeal to acquire. Examples: Purchasing it by means other than a credit card and shipping expenses.

These plain white plastic freebie fins that are included with boards; are they worth anything(not money wise) or throw aways? If they are "decent" or good enough; the board companies ought to consider offering up a range of fin sizes at a good price. Does Cobra make all these fins? Does Cobra also make the dagger boards that are included with some boards as well?

I currently still only have my monster beginner board until I get my first short board. The Viper 91:

I have the included white plastic 34cm fin, a 40cm K4 Fang, and a 48cm Unifiber FreeRide fin.

My sails currently are:

4.5 MauiSails Global
4.7 Chinook PowerGlide
5.5 Chinook PowerGlide
6.5 Ezzy Legacy
7.5 MauiSails Scream
9.0 AeroTech FreeSpeed

Looking to get more experienced with fins.

I see MFC, Makina, and True Ames as being readily available.

Are there any other brands that I should look into?

What sizes or models of fins should I acquire? I want to wake this big board up and get it to plane more and more easily. It always feels like a container ship in the water.

Hate to break this to you, but you’re on a 35lb beginner board. No amount of fin swapping is going to “wake” that thing up. Get yourself on a decent freeride board that weighs 20 or so Lbs and you will be amazed at how “awake” it is.

I've been looking at getting a 125 Nano. But what fin set to get for it?

That is a very big step down for someone used to a beginner board. How much do you weigh?

Probably think +140L unless you are comfortable waterstarting already.

Worrying about fins is a common early-intermediate windsurfer distraction. You can spend plenty of money, even buy some great fins, but not accomplish much. Unless you have a very wrong fin on your board (and that's not the case with the Viper) you aren't good enough to take advantage of a "better" fin.
The fins most production boards ship with today are plenty decent btw.

Totally agree. Not to mention the fact that the first time you grind your shiny new fin into the bottom while working on beachstarts or coming in to the beach too close, it will be trashed. Get a decent freeride board, get the fundamentals nailed down using the stock fin, and then look into upgrading.

The only real reason I would say to look at other fins at this point would be if you sail in weedy conditions in which case a weed fin is warranted pretty much regardless of skill level.
