No one here runs their hook at shoulder (the base of their arms) height, either. There's a triangle involved.

I've seen no hyperventilation, and the difference between straight/locked arms and a 10-20 degree elbow flex is significant in many ways.

Ittiandro, there is a perfect set up. Your challenge to be a great sailor is to quickly figure out what that is every time you rig up and hit the water hoping to get things as close as you can with all your gear. If the wind was perfect it would be much easier. Since it's usually not, we use our skills to compensate for things being less than perfect.

Only once the sailing style, venue, board, wind quality, rider's ergonomics and preferences, point of sail, fin, and many more variables are specified in great detail.

As has been shared before, but there are too many variables that influence how one sets his/her boom and lines to offer a definitive response. Consider:

Variable or steady winds - hooked in while slogging
Type of sailing - wave, freeriding, freestyle, slalom, racing
Type of board - Longboard, formula, widestyle, slalom, wave (small boards)
Size of sail - Generally, bigger = higher boom / smaller = lower boom
Body height
Waist or seat harness
Arm length
PERSONAL PREFERENCE

It's much like asking where to set the mast base in the track. Start in the middle and experiment to see what works best for you with your style of sailing.

In my case, I set my boom height with the same knot in the same string whether it's my 3.2 or my 6.2. After all, my sailing style and my ergonomics haven't changed; only the swell size is really different ... we hope. It might be a different story if my 6.2 were a slalom sail and I sailed it differently than my 3.2 wave sail.
