Wrong review. That is for the firemove, not the firestorm. Two very different boards. Free move vs. free race, comparable to a Starboard Futura I would guess.

Firestorm is just down from V's, so should be fast and early planing.
My '04 FSW is very fast, double concave forward for smooth, and great jibing.
Our FW 92 is everything it's supposed to be, turny, smooth, early planing, and moderate fast. It is NOT supposed to be fast. Can stay in the straps even at less than 5 mph boardspeeds, and hardly ever catch's a rail in the hardest turns.
Can't go wrong with a RRD Firestorm for flat water, early planing, and easy speed.

Got it out with a 6.5..Fast, early to get going, great up wind but sticky in the turns. I have not sailed this type of board in a very long, mostly wave or FSW boards. Hence the turning comment. Plus the 40 cm KP racing fin. Fun in the lite wind and flat water at the lake...

Thanks NOVAAN! Do you suppose a different fin might help in the turns?

Yes, I have one on the way... Its not that it won't turn, its just way different than what I'm use to. I mostly sail it at a lite and gusty lake that has a pretty short reach. I wanted early to plane and up wind speed and it does that well.
It also glides thru lulls and keeps speed on the exit of turns. A little "sticky" on the turns can be overcome with a day or two on the board and its well worth the positives mention above...

I tried a Liquid pro 36cm with my 6.5. It did seem to free up the board a bit in the turns. That and more time on the water helped. Up wind and early planning felt the same to me...No spin out issues and I pushed it hard up wind...
