Which 150L board for a heavyweight?

i use the x-long board tons. one my favorites of all time.

base position i like best 148. sails: 6.2 to 7.5. i have used a 9, but 35-40 cm fin is big for the fin box.

with a 6.8, i can handle-20-25 with gale gusts. thanks for the video link.

side bites seem to be a bit confusing for our windsurfing culture. they may be helpful for some people in surf conditions that are breaking quickly and powerfully. for flat water they seem to stiffen turns for me, and simply add drag. i tend to turn with lots of front foot pressure, sometimes carving quite deeply into the water, tri fins seem to inhibit me from doing something i have been quite successfully doing for a long time.

x-long boards are coveted by their owners, rarely have i seen them up for sale.

i would recommend a used kona one instead. the way to get the most out of an 11'5" is to sail it in waves. kona one has a power box, thus you can use larger fins: therefore larger sails.

On most boards, the side biters are canted / angled towards the center. Helps to carve on a wave, but adds drag when going straight. Some directional kiteboards use less cant because of this. On my Starboard Avanti WindSUP the side biters at the tail are canted a fair bit, but there's a second location about 1/3 of the way up the board (which I assume) is for windsurfing and which are not canted.

Before I buy another longboard, I'm going to see if I can't get this Avanti to plane. Maybe I'm just not using the right technique. I read someplace that moving the mast base and my weight further back helps get a long board up on a plane. I'll give that a try.

lots of SUP style long boards with surf board rockers need gales+ to plane.
esp ones that have surf oriented angles on their side bites.

methinks you need a windsurfer, not a surf board.

Just got back from Hatteras where I was able to take a look at a 2017 Exocet WindSUP 10'0" Bamboo. Sweet looking board! They didn't have an 11'8" and there wasn't any wind so didn't get a chance to give it a try (although I don't think they would have taken it out even if there was wind). Now I have to figure out how to afford this board. Is it really that much better than a Kona Step One (that costs $600 less)?

step one is better for light wind and huge sails and fins. better dagger.

windSUP 10' is better at waves.

if price is most important? link to Link boards both 10' and 11,8 are in link construction. either board, keep mast base pretty far back, even up to a 9.0

11,8 is technically the easiest board to grab the smallest waves as far off the peak, or as early as i have ever ridden.

10' requires placing yourself a bit more critically, but in 15-25, with a 7.5 phantom, tat should be pretty easy. 30-34 cm fin for waves, base all the way back will wave and blast great.

tape up dagger gasket and put away dagger board.....
