as i am a heavyweight (240 lbs now) and goes out in light winds
i have had BIC Dufours, Mistral Equipes and Fanatic CATs
currently using a MEQ2 XR and JP SLW92 for the light stuff

is it worth my while to even try a DIV2 ??
supposedly technical to ride

also, i don't go out unless 20+kph ~12 knots
my understanding is - these beasts are best in less than 15 knots ...

here's one - not expensive

thanks in advance

Greetings Joe,

DIV 2 boards have a pretty rounded hull (on the bottom). In this case,
technical means hard to ride with almost no reward. I was never a big
fan because race boards like the MEQ2 XR do just about everything better,
and are easier to ride. But Saint Greg is around here somewhere and rumor
is that he is a consummate DIV 2 rider, so his advise will be better
than mine.

i had pm'ed Greg and got his response: but he wanted it "private"
removed it here

as i do NOT go out until 12 knots and then with my MEQ2 XR
perhaps it is not worth it
there are lots of other FUN things to spend $$ on in our lovely sport

No.

I raced a Crit D11 over a weekend many years back. Unless you get a kick of mastering something difficult, D11 board are pretty much light wind racing machines and nothing more. At 240 lbs, even more of a challenge. Balancing on a reach isn't too bad, but tacking and especially jibing, takes a lot of practice to master. Wind from 5-10, perfect. If it's capping (12+), then it's VERY challenging to say the least.

no raceboard specific sail yet ..

have used MS TR-4 10.0, TR-6 8.4, SW Retro 8.0, HSM SPF 8.5
and many sails in the 7.x range including older GAastra sails

actually wrote a post about "longboard" sails in North America

Using a planing oriented sail on a Div2 is going to be less than optimum. For the use you are describing I'd look to a raceboard sail rather than a new board.
Especially if you are willing to rig an adjustable downhaul, that seems to be a big part of getting full range from them.

in light wind I use AO/adjustable outhaul on all the larger sails
still need to get one for my smaller boom

on a DIV2 I would start with my HSM SPF 8.5 with less downhaul
but common opinion here seems to be NON to the DIV2
