I bought a new Chinook Two Bolt base plate to attach to my new Futura. Didn't think much of it at the time.

PROBLEM. The deck of the Futura is slightly concave AND, the Chinook base plate is ALSO slightly concave. They don't mate. Only the outside edges of the base plate actually contact the board. The inside area has a pretty significant space. Not good! So, what do I do? This is one are of the setup you don't mess around. Does anyone else make a base plate compatible with the Chinook system? Is it malformed? Perhaps I need a shim of some kind? Or...?

Duh
Is it possible the board has the wrong contour , not the base ?

Already contacted Chinook but they're done for the weekend. Wanted to bounce it of those smarter than me in the meantime.

Nope, it can only be the base. The only logical culprit. Just to be clear, I'm being cheeky. Laughing

Maybe you can provide some photos that clearly depict your problem.

With a two-bolt base, attachment is front and back in the mast track. If the side-to-side outside diameter of the base touches across the width of the board failing to nest right, you could always shave off material on each side of the base so that it nests properly.

Do you have the same problem screwing on a single-bolt universal?

Suggestion #2
Since this is a Starboard , where is it likely others many have encountered this?

Starboard FORUM , could be wrong.

I've contacted the North American Starboard distributor. I'll see what they say.

Get one of these deck washers, and cut the sides off so that the center part fills the gap, start with small cuts until you have contact along the center as well as the sides of the base onto the deck. This is assuming that the gap is not thinner than the deck washer, otherwise you'll have to use something else to make a shim out of. Also I'd flatten out the sides of the base plate a bit so that they aren't hitting the deck in a small spot.
They have these washers at Windance.

Thanks for the suggestion. The plate actually came with that deck washer. Are you suggesting to add a second and shape that one or use the one it came with?
