I must say I'm a little surprised that you were not consulted by Oxford. (Even in an advisory capacity.) Perhaps if you had been more advanced in Googling expertise your seemingly great insight would have been more readily sort? |
GT, I'm glad you got it; irony isn't the strong suit of the cream pie in the face crowd here.
I share your bewilderment at Oxford's lack of interest in my input. After all, I can routinely pretend to be an expert on a wide array of topics in which I have zero expertise......all it takes is a quick visit to Wikipedia, frequent repetition, and a liberal sprinkling of unsubstantiated falsehoods to appear knowledgeable. It works here all the time!
Glad you are surviving the plague. Hope that Wikipedia can help you navigate the seemingly endless changes in Covid restrictions over there. Merry Christmas and, with luck, a much happier New Year. |

Apparently the British are still able to convince themselves that their gratuitous insults are witty and wildly funny. But then some aspects of British humor, like British cuisine in the 1970's, remain an oxymoron. |

I wish you and your family a safe and happy (little) Christmas also, Mr. G.
Despite all the flack Boris gets hurled at him he is adamant that daily exercise is essential for mental and physical health. As a hyper active loner it is no false claim to say that it has made all the difference.
I saw that in one socialist newspaper last week that they were accusing him of cowardice in allowing a slackening of the strict rules over the Christmas break, (countermanding the advice of his scientific advisors) but actually 'passing the buck' by leaving it to the good sense of family friends to take responsibility for their own actions, and keep the virus under control.
Truly, you can't win as a Conservative! It was an enormous relief when Boris won the last election by a huge majority, and sunk the attempted Marxist State takeover. |

GT, There will always be people who are wise after the event and add nothing other than finger pointing. In that vein, you may find the advise in the attached PSA useful.

When people on the right get all snowflake, and say, in effect, can’t you take a joke, the only possible response is “maybe, let me know when you tell one.”

You can't win these days as ANY politician although some seem to be better at it than others. Guys with wild blond hair fall into the category of lame.

Must be time for figgy pudding and ranting about freedom. Why with a little effort, the UK could catch up with the old colony. |

A new and highly infectious strain of Covid appears from out of the blue, and spreads like wildfire in large parts of the country forcing the government to take action to attempt to control the spread, and all we get on here is snide crowing, along with accusations of 'ranting about freedom' (what?) and catching up with deaths in the old colony! This, from the world expert in 'I could have told you so - but not before it actually happened!
Yes wsurfer, ALL politicians are victims of circumstance with new developments but I would add that announcing the new restrictions Boris spoke from the heart (his anguished appearance) and was NOT just chanting from an autocue. He has been handed a very poisoned chalice by events, and is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. A great opportunity for ridicule by those who cannot contain their glee. (Pretending to be concerned at death numbers is not convincing!) |
