The teachers want smaller class sizes, nurses to give kids medication and to care for mental health issues. I guess those issues aren't important.
Over 70% of the students are Hispanic--but there are a host of languages. Triggers your buttons. Just to push your other buttons, I'll give you this factoid for North Carolina schools: |
The reasons for the strike are well known, but what has caused the problems?????????
Why aren't you willing to acknowledge the real issue? NC teachers aren't on strike, but deflect all you want, because everyone knows that you will run when cornered. |
Utter horseshit snowflake. You have displayed no clear understanding of the issues behind the strike or the causes of the problems. You have, as usual, displayed a lack of a coherent argument that is supported by a clear thesis and evidence. But you’ve inferred—as you usually do—that the problem is illegal immigration and California’s sanctuary policies. Like most of the right, you’re too lazy to do a little homework and actually collect evidence and engage in real debate. Slurs and name calling. You are the last person on the forum that I would run from. You’ve displayed only your prejudice—and hatred that I stand against bigotry. Stay in North Carolina—we can see how unsuccessful their education system is.

Okay, it might be time for a public service announcement.
On several occasions, mac has admonished me for not complaining about the other conservatives here that resort to name calling and judging mac, or any of the other usual liberal suspects here.
So with that in mind, before you judge mac, you should walk a few miles in his shoes. |

Quote: | California Sen. Kamala Harris carved out a liberal position on medical insurance on Monday night, telling an audience of Iowa Democrats that the United States should 'eliminate' all private plans and move everyone to a single-payer system.
'We need to have Medicare for all. That's just the bottom line,' Harris said during a CNN town hall event, declaring that she feels 'very strongly' about it.
'The idea is that everyone gets access to medical care, and you don't have to go through the process of going through an insurance company, having them give you approval, going through the paperwork, all of the delay that may require,' she explained, concluding that private insurers should not be part of the system.
'Let's eliminate all of that. Let's move on,' said Harris. |

No problem:
Quote: | A new study out Monday from George Mason University's Mercatus Center finds that Sanders plan would add $32.6 trillion to federal spending in its first 10 years, with costs steadily rising from there. That closely matches other studies — including one by the liberal Urban Institute — that looked at Sanders' plan.
Underestimating 'Medicare for All' Costs
To put this in perspective, "Medicare for all" would nearly double the size of the already bloated federal government. Doubling corporate and individual income taxes wouldn't cover the costs. |

What, no comment on your wonderful Senator? Deflecting again?
It's had to ignore the elephant in the room, but you are unwilling to acknowledge the real issue in the LA City schools. With the raise the teachers will get and the other added staff positions, no big deal - just increase the taxes (and yes, there are other funding sources for the added costs), but California has made it's bed, I hope you enjoy sleeping in it.
Quote: | The ongoing strike by the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) union against the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is about teacher pay, classroom size, support staff, and especially charter schools, which the union says take money away from the district.
Left unspoken, however, is the cost of educating illegal aliens, and their children — which could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars per year, if not billions, experts say.
Steven A. Camarota, director of research, at the Center for Immigration Studies, told Breitbart News on Friday that “between one-fifth and one-fourth of the students in LAUSD are the children of illegal immigrants — though most of those were born in the U.S.” He said that a smaller percentage of the students (“in the single digits”) are illegal immigrants themselves.
With roughly 700,000 students in the district, at a cost of over $13,000 per student, that means the district could be spending about $1.8 billion annually on educating the children of illegal immigrants. The total annual expenses for the LAUSD in 2017-2018 amounted to $7.52 billion.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) put the cost of educating the children of illegal aliens statewide at over $12 billion in a 2014 study. A significant proportion of those students are served by the LAUSD.

Nobody in their right mind WANTS Medicare for all. Doctors are fleeing it rapidly because it pays only pennies or limited dimes on the billed dollar and micromanages their medical decisions. My jaw often drops when I see a bill for $1,000 and the provider a) receives <$100 (sometimes ZERO) and b) is forbidden by law from billing me for the remainder. I spend many hours each week -- sometime every day for a week -- fighting insurance, billing, and pharmaceutical errors, and Medicare is as guilty as any of my other five insurers. We've won every fight so far (saved $10,000 and restoring life-critical medications from their bungling) but ONLY because my wife is a pit bull with these bastards and has managed much more technical contracts and programs costing up to half of Medicare's entire annual nationwide budget. Several of my doctors have said point blank that if we weren't both retired, both smarter AND far better informed than the average consumer, and both MUCH more diligent than the average patient, my care would have cost me thousands more per year and I'd be long dead by now anyway. I'm alive and looking forward to next WSing season ONLY because I very carefully researched and chose the only two oncologists in the world who treat stage IV prostate cancer the way they do; every other medical institution in the U.S. prescribes the government-dictated Standard of Care treatment, which those institutions agree helps for two years then kills in the third year.
I'm well into that third year and my PSA and health are still improving.
These Goddamned brainwashed, stupid, misinformed, socialist shits -- starting with Pelosi, Schumer, Harris, AOC, Warren, and most of Hollywood and extending to most of today's students and professors -- can and will destroy our country if rational informed adults don't shove some actual KNOWLEDGE down their disgusting throats. Google the dollar cost of Medicare for all. (Hint: It's projected at $32.6 TRILLION over the first decade ... more costly and more harmful than even this insane climate change panic.) |

Kamala Harris is infinitely more qualified, and honest, than Agent Orange and his team of traitors. Techno is wrong, as well as uninformed, about California education, but there is no point in providing facts, they don't penetrate the shields.
By the way, I'm not a supporter of Medicare for all, nor do I think it has a chance of succeeding in Congress. But I think it is a more sincere campaign theme than "lock her up", "no collusion", better healthcare by Trump, or the Mexicans are all rapists.
Anyone who thought Trump was capable of providing additional economic opportunities for those who have been casualties of the outsourcing of work--by Trump and his criminal companions--or that he would even try--is truly nutty. |
