has anyone removed the cams on a race sail? would this idea improve performance or kill it?????? any input would appreciated . thanks

Depends what kind of cam system.
Some cams can be removed and the batten is backed out a bit and slid into an adjoining batten pocket with a stop at the mast sleeve. Yes.
Other systems have the cam directly joined to the batten..so if you remove the cam, the batten floats free to slide around a bit, poking a hole to your now unstable sail.
But if low standards are used, you can remove the cam and even the battens of any sail and it still "Works". |
