bin wearin' my prescription glasses for years now
tie a string around the handles to hold glasses tight to head
back in the day when i was more prone to fallin in ...
put a fisherman's bobber on a loop of the string
wore them to dragon boating and showed 'em how they float
(non, we did not roll the boat - just all were curious)
easy and low cost !!
with a bobber this big even you should float

Whenever I get a new prescription my old glasses become my new on the water glasses. I also always wear wrap-around sunglasses over the glasses (trying to delay macular degeneration). A croakie like device holds on the regular glasses while a long loop of string tied to the sunglasses is held by the top clip of my life jacket. Hard falls knock off the sunglasses, and the sunglasses take enough of the force the regular glasses stay on. Adding a bobber from my "found at the lake" collection seems like a good idea. |

Liberty Sport ( rec specs ) are available at most good optometrist offices. They stay on even when getting rolled in the waves on Maui🤙 Just google Liberty Sport for models and styles available. |

Maui Jim offers prescription lenses. I love my Stingray's. Never had my glasses come off using a Croakie and a hat with chin strap in nuking conditions with crashes. |

After testing dozens of types of eyewear including double-pane types guaranteed not to fog, I settled on rec specs decades ago and haven't looked back. And, yes, I've tried every kind of anti-fog crap from potato juice to Cat Crap with no joy. I can't tolerate contacts, so it's glasses when the air temps are above 55 or so, commando below that. Any eyewear fogs over instantly on me below that; it's the main reason I had to quit sailing the Oregon coast many years ago. Logo high waves are useless if you can't see them because you're going out directly into the late PM sun.
As far as I can tell, my rec specs are going to last forever. I've stood on them without damage. I replace the lenses every few years if my careless handling scratches them up, and I order them with all the appropriate anti-fog/scratch/glare coatings. I have one pair of tinted for clear skies and one pair of photochromatic self-adjusting for partly cloudy days and for sunset to dark sessions.
But while optometrists and prescription eyewear shops want several hundred dollars for prescription rec specs, Walmart wants a little over a hundred and guarantees fit, optics, and anti-scratch performance. I've used nothing but Walmart for all my eye care and glasses for 20 years now with zero complaints, 50-70% lower prices, BETTER eye exams, and better service than any "civilian" optometrist I've ever found.
Just as I never drive or ride in a car without wearing a seat belt, I never sail without a helmet, so my glasses never fall off. Croakies keep them right where I want 'em. When they fog up, they get stuffed down my wet suit or into my body armor pocket. (Non-prescription sunglasses get thrown as far as I can throw them when they fog up.)
Another tip: we're begging for early cataracts if we sail without sunglasses. My helmet's visor adds a TON of cataract prevention and clearer vision. |

what model of rec specs would be the best?
also how does rec specs compare to sea specs. The price will be around 200 bucks for either one of them with prescription.
Thanks |
