Big drama in my life.

2 weeks ago, my Fanatic 2012 FW95 TeXtreme started to laminate on the deck between the bootstraps. Normally, it's good news, I get to buy another one. But that shape is, in my opinion, the best freewave shape Fanatic has ever come up with. Add also the fact that the light weight TeXtreme construction adds to it an incredible liveliness to the board.

A friend of mine convinced me to take it to Fox Watersports. I told the young fellow at Fox that the priority was not the esthetics, but it was to keep the board as light as possible. He told me it could take a week or so for the repair.

Checked 2 days later, my board was on the carpet, waiting for me. Incredible job. I don't know how many extra grams my board took, but I am sure some guys were sniffing as much in a day back in the 80's.

And the board looks just great. Here's how it looks compared with the original graphics that my NW75 has also:

The most inscredible thing was the repair cost: $75. They would have told me that it was 150$, I would be have been more than happy to put the money on the counter.

Right in the corner was sitting Donny Bowers, the legendary repair man. Told him that the only issue I had with the repair was the price tag. Way too cheap. Wink

Did you ask them how they actually did the repair?

Most high-end boards would have multiple layers of various density foam sandwiched in glass/carbon in that area. Depending on the extent of the damage, the "proper" repair would be to route out the damaged material and re-build with the same materials.

My guess is the $75 covered the cost to drill a couple holes and just squirt in some epoxy.

I did ask M. Bowers how he fixed the board. He did explain, he opened the board and fixed it the way it is supposed to be done. This guy is a pro, anybody in OBX that knows the guy would acknowledge that.

Next time I see M. Bowers, I will insist that he should jack his prices up, looks like it's needed for more credibility. Wink

I promise you we did not just throw some epoxy in there and paint over it. We have been building boards for 50 years. We were building composite sandwich boards long before any production companies. Donny has done more board repairs than probably anyone in the world. He is so good he combines steps that the average repair guy would take 3 or 4x the amount of time to fix. We base our price on his time spent working on the repair so we are much cheaper and better than your average repair guy. We would be happy to charge you more if it would make you feel better about the quality of the repair.

Oooh yeah, two thumbs up for Donny Bowers!! Donny has done probably 100 repairs for us over the years, with his most impressive one being a board that was completely snapped in half! We rented it out for 2 more years after the repair was done and eventually sold it (with major warnings to the buyer and a super cheap price). It held up incredibly well, and was still light as could be!

First pic is our old instructor Graham, who snapped it while learning stalled forwards... Oooops....

Second pic is Donny with his completed work!

Donny has fixed lots of my boards, including one cracked side to side. He explained the repair, and it's fixed awesome, at a reasonable price. The only repair service I would trust, and the art work is second to none.

As you can read from your response , which has no basis for your derogatory “GUESS” to be placed in print . Donny from first hand observation does quality repairs. He gave me many tips on materials to build my first board from scratch.

Opinions should be based on fact or theory not crappy guesses.

Oh pu-leeze... Rolling Eyes

Never heard of Fox Water Sports' legendary repair services, so pardon my skepticism. Someone posts how they got a fantastic soft spot repair for $75 in a day or two (which was originally estimated to take a week) and I get lambasted for making a comment that most likely what the shop did was just squirt in some epoxy? Gimme a break. 99% of the shops out there, you get a delam repair for 75 bucks and that's what you're getting - some epoxy shot into your board and a little touch up paint to cover the holes.

Pardon me for asking whether the OP did their homework and actually asked how the board was repaired....
