Two simple questions: is it acceptable to keep a board in its board bag when not in use and stored away or better to leave it out of the bag and 2. is it better to not touch the vent plug or remove it in between sessions?

Thanks for the feedback.

Bag or not matters little, unless spiders and rats are around.
Loosen vent if temperatures fluctuate under 40 or over 100.

Pretty much as Leed said on vent plugs especially if a new board under warranty. However, if you are not a very organized person you run the risk of forgetting to put the vent plug in before you sail. You have to know yourself. Lots of people put the vent plug in & forget about it with no problems.

Storing your board in a board bag is not a problem as long as it is dry before you store it. Newer boards are using more eco friendly paint so if you store the board wet in the bag you will void the warranty on the paint. Instructions on new boards will specifically say do not store wet in a bag. If your board is exposed to high amounts of sun or dust I would store it in a bag.

Board is and stays dry in the bag is fine.

Remove the vent , and dont worry about it then blowing up.

Yes simple questions , both. The number of occasions asked make it tiresome to read .

I never remove or loosen vent plugs, unless I'm driving over higher elevations or flying. Also, I have put wet boards in bags all years, but I will say that all my boards are always stored in my van. It's my view that if you don't loosen the vent plug, a wet board in a bag is no problem. After over 27 years using boards with vent plugs, I've never had a problem.

If a customer uses a Chinook 2 bolt base we recommend removing the vent plug, put it in the two bolt base and then close the base. Using this method it's almost impossible to lose the plug and you can't attach your rig without removing it first.

For a must read, go Eva the board lady web site. She is the board repair and care guru.. She has done some very interesting research and test on this question. I always Take my pug out. This gives me the opportunity to inspect the rubber seal each time. Its such a simple thing to do, why would you ever take a chance....

The board Lady also make the comment .
Putting a board in a bag that has wet straps with the plug out
is like putting it in a sauna bath . The water in the straps goes
into the board
I use to take the plugs out all the time till I ruined the plug seal on one
of my boards.
So I do not store my boards in bags in wet places in the Winter,
and I take the plugs out for the non use period.
But I don't take the plugs out unless I a going someplace really hot,
during the season .

Storing your plug in the mast base is the trick you use to not forget
to put them in .

the only reason I use bags at all is to protect them from each other on the
racks or in the interior of the car. Must be nice to have a Van with internal
board racks.
