Turning 60 soon

Wondering when to hang up the harness on fowards

So who is out there raising the bar... how old ?

Why give it up unless it hurts?

That video hurts to watch!

Learning is one thing, doing is something else. I'm pretty sure Jim Oaks
is near 60, and that guy can loop off a 6 inch piece of chop, but he learned
when he was much younger. If you can already do it, I'd keep doing it
until it hurts, if you're trying to learn at 60, I'd recommend serious battle
gear, or a beach beer instead.

p.s. at 62 I have little desire to learn.

Disclaimer: I still can't loop! (front ones that is). On my very first learning sessions, it was physically challenging and demanding. Then it got easier. The good thing is that the first few tries seem to be where the most improvement is. No need to throw too many per session in hope to break it!

Still I'm amazed that people can learn the move at all! Kids can, women and men of any age seem to be able to as well! Falls involve various degrees of slapping (side, butt, back, neck). If one bears away before throwing the move then legs should be safe and board too. From experience, bad things start to happen when pinching upwind in hope to find better ramps when tired.

Access to a small side shore spot with reliable, consistent medium winds inside should make it easier.

I'm 43, missing a few ligaments in one knee, loose shoulders, tendinitis in my elbows, forearms and shoulders (that's all getting better though Smile ). I think that's all Very Happy !

Anyway, I just landed my first backloops, found it quite easy (150-200 tries, 1.5 years) and now land nearly one (sometimes 2) at every session after 2 years.

Now, just above 900 spin loop attempts in 1 year and still not quite there yet!!! Need more height, straighter front arm and back leg tuck.

I blame conditions for the long learning curve on forwards, and thank conditions helping the short learning curve for backloops!

What are your typical conditions?
Are you willing to travel? Do a clinic?
Have you tried anything looking like a forward/spin/speed loop?

From a French forum, one guy learned them at 59. He had a strong level coming into it (table top but no backie) and I believe has access to a front friendly spot.

There are many riders here, I only ran across one (mid 20s) who learned them in 6 months and probably 250-500 tries? He started them really well technically!
