I can wrap my newbie mind around the concept and advantages to having an adjustable outhaul.

But I can't wrap my mind around the race boards with the while in use; adjustable mast tracks.

If your out on something with an adjustable mast track; in what conditions will you run it all the way forward? Then when will you run it set all the way back? Will you just run it in the middle the rest of the time?

I'm just wondering if I run my mast all the way back; will that setting alone and by default cause the board to plane easier or earlier or be more likely to plane?

I have ran it all the way forward and it seems to keep the board more planted and smashed down in the water. All the way back; it seems to make the board more squirrelly and lively. But I didn't seem to notice or feel that it made it more prone or easier to plane; even though technically it seems like it should?

Track forwards for upwind and lighter winds.
Back for downwind in higher winds.
Combinations in varying winds to suit specifics needed.
Experience tells you what to use when

The adjustable track on a raceboard is about manipulating waterline length. It shouldn't be confused with the small adjustment offered on a fixed shortboard track.
