Today's SF Chron frontpage article on new Richmond ferry to SF indicates route will be from the Ford Assembly Plant along the East side of Brooks Island rather than out the shipping channel thru Potrero Reach.
Should make for some interesting wake surfing possibilities if true?
Maybe also some extra dredging, although I'd have thought that would be avoided at all costs?
Or perhaps this was a mistake in article - can't find additional route details as of yet.

With the prevailing wind direction, The northbound portside wake will be port tack side shore wavesailing. Some of those wakes get up to 4'. It might end up to be some type of inland wave sailing mecca kinda like ship wake surfing in texas.Right on.

From my days sailing Larkspur, I’ve seen the wave form when the ferry boat is carrying speed coming in or guns it going out. The larkspur ferry comes in slow these days, but will gun it going out once they reach San Quentin.
I've noticed the bigger boats coming in and out of potrero reach tend to slowly chug along…

Here’s a pic from the ferry boat gunning it off of San Quentin. This was a single hull at med-low tide, waist high wave.

Modern rules want to preserve the Corte Madera marsh, so speeds are recomended to be sub wave producing.
Captains DO gun it outgoing past San Q, so starboard wave is thick and fastmoving into deeper water.

Andy,
Nope, not misreading. Probably someone pointed out the mistake and graphic is now corrected to show ferry exiting out the Potrero Reach shipping channel. Makes much more sense.
I retained the hard copy of my Chron for evidence evidence.
Another example of Fake News......
Thanks for update/clarification, David
