Hi Gang,

It is only 1PM and the Long Beach Airport near the Southern California coast is already 108 degrees!

Plus it is hotter near the coast than at most desert locations!

Record temps are likely for much of Southern California today. There are several proximal factors to play behind this weirdness.

1. In the first half of the animation below you can see the huge area of high temps over much of the USA.

2. In the second half, you are looking at the upper trough and upper ridges at ≈ 18,000 ft. Notice the huge upper ridge high pressure over much of the USA. This is hot air moving up from the south AND it is an area of subsiding air which compresses and heats as it nears the surface.

3. And if you look carefully in the first half you can see there are offshore winds from the Great Basin in the Southern California area. As this warm wind comes down the passes it compresses and heats making the temps even higher.

Why are such major heat events and winter cold events seem to be more common and longer lasting? Basically, it looks like the upper troughs and ridges, like the ones you see in this imagery, are often more elongated N. to S. Which means they bring more extreme weather N. and S. and they move slower from W. to E. around the world.

Why? It is not because of "Climate Change", it is because of "Global Warming". It is here, it is changing the way we live (and sail), and it will only get worse. Way worse.

Our President says global warming doesn't exist as it was all made up by the Chinese to steal our jobs!

Do I believe him? He's the president and never lies!

Exciting times lay ahead being that we are on tract for the Earths 6th extinction. Couldn't happen to a more deserving species.

All I ask for is another decade or two of good wind!

Scientists have looked at the data from Oakland and San Francisco airports and have found a 30% decrease in fog.
