My friends on the left are mortified that America elected a president they consider to be a dishonest, narcissistic, philandering, racist homophobe. And they hope that by educating voters who are not as smart as they are of Trump’s character flaws, the electorate will self-correct.
Good luck! The last election was not about Donald Trump; it was a referendum on liberal ideology. To win in the future, liberals need to understand how they could lose to someone they find so detestable.
Despite all his shortcomings and scandal, only one Republican president in 50 years has had a higher approval rating than Trump among members of his party after 500 days. The explanation for Trump’s resilience is his success in disrupting liberal ideals.
A recent Pew Research Center survey found that 45 percent of Republicans see Democrats as a threat to our nation’s future, and nearly six in ten have a very unfavorable opinion of Democrats. Despite their disdain for Trump, Democrats do not feel as strongly about the opposing party.
Here’s why: Republicans are tired of Democrats being generous with other people's money but stingy with their own. Of the 17 most philanthropic states, all 17 are red. Of the 17 least charitable, 15 are blue. Many consider charity to be a proxy for values.
While most Republicans and independents believe in racial justice and abhor police brutality, they are unable to wrap their mind around why the liberals’ way to bring attention to these topics is to disrespect the American flag and national anthem. There could not be a more divisive image to drown out whatever message is being sent by professional football players than the one they chose.
Ours is a country of laws. Regardless of their views on immigration, large numbers of Americans are appalled that liberal cities and states arrogantly pass ordinances defying our nation’s immigration laws.
The mainstream media throws daily fuel onto the inferno of distrust they have cultivated with vitriolic headlines like the Washington Post’s recent: “The likely next speaker of the House is a mindless sycophant.” To many voters, traditional media outlets are leftist tools committed to indoctrination, not illumination.
Liberals have produced nearly all our nation’s unaffordable communities, including Chapel Hill, while they lecture everyone else about the importance of eliminating poverty. Poverty is a function of income relative to the cost of life’s necessities. Housing is the most basic necessity, and home ownership is the single most important factor in escaping poverty, yet owning a home is unattainable for modest-income residents in most liberal communities.
Parents send their children to taxpayer-funded colleges where they hear only one world view and graduate unable to think critically or debate a political issue in a respectful manner because alternative perspectives were not allowed in their classrooms.
People who have an abiding faith, and believe the teachings of their church, are incensed over being branded as bigots if they don’t embrace the liberal view of marriage and gender.
Americans are weary of elitist tech workers who enrich themselves by exploiting our most personal data and using it to manipulate society. Now, at Google, where the average worker makes $200,000 a year, employees are revolting over an artificial intelligence program the company is collaborating on with the U.S. military. No company on the planet owes more of its success to the existence of the Internet than Google. Guess who created the Internet—the U.S. military.
It is no mystery how liberals lost the White House and two-thirds of the state houses when so many Americans are terrified of the direction they would take our nation.

First Trum did not win , and second the russians brought home the white house. We have an illegitimate rapist president.
too funny what a flunkie for logic and reasoning, I can shoot holes in his arguments so quick. For the giving part right away the top 1% have what about 90% of the net wealth of the nation. gee if they are not giving more that x gross percentage oof their disposable income as the liberals we can call it for what it is, the rich do not give nearly as much as the poor above the living ages a s a percentage of what they can. Say a poor or middle class gives away 3 percent of their above what is needed to live on a avarage budget. And a trust fund kid would correspondingly only give about 0.0000003 percent. The fact the author does not include a discussion of the above shows how intellectually dishonest he is.
Here is why.... what a moron, because the right wing own the media...
Oh the flag and anthem... om my gosh are those so critical to ones daily life.... Hitler used those too.
our nation of laws is being trampled on by trump, why will he not allow release of his taxes, and appoint an independent counsel that is not of his party. If he has nothing to hide them get the proper investigator and tools to someone who is not a lifelong republican and go after all crimes if he is not guilty.

techno900, that opinion piece in the National Observer was a complete pantload. I guess the author is forgetting that the majority of this nation didn't vote for Donald Trump, or his policies. Also, we have to remember that the approval ratings for Republicans in Congress is dismal at best. Lastly, I don't think there is a time in the modern era that I'm familiar with where more respected conservatives pundits and opinion writers have come out against Donald Trump, and where he and his Republican bootlickers are leading this nation.
You best prepare for your hateful Trumpist world to crumble right before your eyes. I'm thinking that with the results of the November elections you will see the tide turning against you. |

Predicting the outcome is a shot in the dark, but the "little voice" in me suggests that while the bluster is all from the left, the silent right will speak loudly in November. And if I am wrong, the left will need a platform other than "Trump's an idiot".
And by the way, the paper where the opinion was published is the News and Observer, not the National Observer.
I always chuckle when I see you guys continually push the "Trump didn't win the popular vote". No one gives a crap since it's meaningless, except within each state. It's obvious, but never acknowledged by the left, that presidential candidates campaign in states where it could be a close call, and skip those that are strong right or left. They ignore the overall popular vote since it means nothing, other than fodder for the "sour grape" lefties. |
