In order to be productive it's essential to have a smart phone. As for Fakebook it's not necessarily useful. |

Never ask a question you don’t already know the answer to. |
Yep, that's it mac, Trump wouldn't even be concerned if the kneelers were white, he'd say "why aren't more white players kneeling?".
Sounds to me like you're trying to rev up your racist base.
I say let the market forces dictate what happens, market forces usually work better than trying to force something, in almost everything, from alternative energy sources to half empty NFL stadiums. |

Very funny. When right-wingers are caught in hypocrisy, they go on the attack. Let's review the underlying reasoning.
1. Alex Jones is a lying lunatic. He has the right to believe, and say whatever he wants, short of something like shouting "fire" in a theater. But he doesn't have a right to have that material posted on commercial sites that have established content standards. The right goes nuts when his posts are pulled down because they violate content standards.
2. There is a very interesting issue about the degree to which hate speech is protected. I support the ACLU because they have a very broad view of free speech, and have defended the rights of vile groups--like the Klan--to march. None of the commentary by the right here goes beyond talking points and Trump tweets to state a reasoned position on why hate speech should, or should not, be protected. Of course there is a secondary question, that if hate speech can be restricted, who makes the decisions. One or two comments with merit on that issue--but missing the larger question.
3. Employees do not give up their free speech rights when they take a job. There job standards might--or might not--restrict those rights while they are representing their employer. Here's what the rules actually say:
Quote: | However, the NFL game operations manual, a 260-page document that addresses game rules at a higher organizational level, does. Below is a snippet of the policy:
The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.
Yet the policy allows teams to use their discretion, and currently, according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, players are “encouraged but not required to stand for the national anthem.”
Before 2009, according to McCarthy, players in prime time games were not required to be on the field, instead they came out after the anthem on cue from the networks. Players in daytime games, however, were on the field during the anthem. In 2009, the NFL decided that all players should be on the field to ensure consistency across all games.
|
So under this reasoning, Jerry Jones can fire a player for not standing--but any other owner can allow such behavior.
4. What the so-called conservatives miss is that the government should not be the entity that decides to enforce discretion that exists in a sports team. That is indeed creeping fascism--and exactly the kind of behavior that conservatives wouild go bonkers about if Obama had tried it.
But riling up the base with dog whistles that are pretty clearly racist is what the current Republican party and Trump are all about. |

I do recognize that my not having a smart phone is a bit unusual in today's world, but I have no real need for one. Being retired frees me from having to do business on the run. As far as being productive, it just depends on what you are doing with your time. |

Fortunately, smart phones aren't a requirement in life.
We have to remember that there's a lot of responsibility and commitment once you decide to start using a smart phone. Folks expect attention when they call you, so you just can't blow them off.
And, where's your quiet time? Just think back to those times where we weren't so interconnected electronically. Folks need to value escape sometimes to be one with themselves. |

They're invaluable tools for my industry. I've had one since the days of Motorola brick phones. Before everyone had cell phones, it was hours spent on the phone every evening after already working long days. Now it's all texts...no "how's it going" and all the other meaningless conversation. Just to the point every time, which means so much times saved. Any conflicts are always done via an actual phone call. I resisted the "smart phone" for the longest time, until it became too easy to resolve on-site issues via pictures, and specs exchanged instantly. These type of issues usually meant driving to a job site, and when you have eight projects going it's a huge waste. Plus real time wind and weather reports are invaluable, and means way less skunkage, and way better wave sailing.
Facebook can be a total waste of time, but we use FB group messenger to communicate and adds to the WSing stoke, and quality of sessions experience with site reports. For business, Facebook is a huge part of my marketing efforts, and free and effective at that. _________________ The universe is made up of proton, neutrons, electrons, and morons. |
