Looking for some sail size data for my wife. What times(s) were you on the water, what size sail and board, and how much do you weigh.

I did sail from 12 to 2, on a 7.5/125L, way overpowered the first 45 minutes, manageable the rest of the time. I weight 165 pounds. My 6.5/106L would have been a better choice.
Why didn't I change for smaller? Arrived at the boat ramp later than usual, so I rigged big, expecting the wind to mellow, as it usually does.
And coming back to rig smaller would have been an admission that I made a bad choice, something I hate to do. |

But if the question is what does a light weight generally uses at Stevenson on an Summer Easterly, my wife (good sailor, 135 pounds) generally uses a 4.7, 5.3 or 5.7 on a 85L or 95L board, with a fin a couple of cm more than usual.
On occasion, she will use a 6.2 on a 106L when it's really light.
Cheers! |
