Cheers everyone,

I'm making a trip to the Bay Area to windsurf next week (August). Got the basics down. Looking to take a class and learn harness useage, waterstarts and such. Will bring a 3/2 wetsuit. What is the best place to go to? I'm debating between Delta Windsurf or the place that's next to SFO airport.

Any advice?

I recommend Delta Windsurf if you can. Warmer water and more consistent winds. Scenery is more country vs. more city, but both are beautiful once on the water. Plus depending on your constitution a 3/2 will be colder in the Bay if you are in the water a lot.

3/2. wetsuit is fine at "the place by SFO" Boardsports California at Coyote Point.
I'm sure either Delta or Boardsports could help you out with lessons and rentals.

Well Delta Windsurf had Jason Voss and I don't know if
he is there or on his own out of there.
See his website online (I think its still there)

Also good to get a copy of the Windsurfing Bible

The Delta is warm, windy, and safe. Try to hook-up with Jason and you'll get a lesson from one of the best instructors out there.

jason voss is great if you decide to go to the delta.

We have rentals and lessons right at water's edge at coyote point park - 5 minutes from SFO

Both great options. Check the forecast, if for example we get "Eddie conditions", expect light winds at Coyote, high winds in the Delta.
Beyond that - which location is closer to drive to, traffic is nuts.

Great, thanks for replies everyone. Super helpful.

Also, out of curiosity, is Long Beach a good spot to windsurf? I live in Arizona, and SoCal is much closer of a trip then the Bay Area.

No wind at Long Beach this time of year.

Delta Windsurf can set you up with lessons (and equipment) from one of several very experienced instructors that are part of the Delta team.

A 15 minute drive north of Long Beach is Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. They get good wind there all summer & you can get lessons through Captain Kirk's Water Sports located in Long Beach.
