For weekend warriors, meaning for someone that sails at least couple of times a month at their local spot.
What's you largest gear, type, your weght.,where you sail
Example (me):
7.0 m2 race sail , 120l foil board, 135lb, south Florida |

I have a 150 ltr Angulo Sumo, atop which sits a 9.5M Retro sail.
Nothing better for my 190 lbs in 12MPH winds.

11.9m, Equipe2 (258L), rarely rigged together. Usually just a twin cam 8.5m on the Equipe2 or <7.5m/130L/foil.
195# down from 210#. |

8.5 m V8, ~115 l slalom board (if steady 15 mph+) or 220 l F2 Lightning (if less or big lulls).
More often on 110 l freestyle, 6.5 m, in 16 mph+.
BIC Windsup and 5.0 if less than 10-12 mph. |

have become a weekend warrior only
@ 240 lbs / 209 kilos ...
most used equipment is Mistral Equipe 2 XR with HotSailsMaui SpeedFreak 8.5
wind minimum is 20 kph or ~10 knots
at 12 knots will try the JP SLW92 with a TR-4 10 m² sail
but how often do i get to use that ??
have smaller stuff, but damn it - should i sell it before it depreciates completely ??
people here all say
1) gotta travel - like Lake Champlain or Quebec city
2) do windsurf vacations - Hatteras, Aruba, etc
buddy kiter just got back from Cuba - 70 consecutive days on kitefoil !!! |

Answers to this would be highly dependent on where you live.
And what kind of windsurfing you want to do.
Windiest spots like the Gorge and Maui might be 5.0 something.
Sf bay area 6 something
Texas?
Hatteras ?
I think there was and article on this in one of the US windsurfing magazines
a long time ago. |

foiling or kite foiling are NOT for everyone ...
as mentioned - water depths are often an issue
on the weekend I was out in VERY light winds
17 meter kites were falling out of the sky
i continued to schlogg on the MEQ longboard
even windsurf foiling seems to suggest 12 knots minimum
as mentioned people are planing on their large kits by then ...
to have 70 days off in a row
you need to be retired or be a teacher
buddy kiter is a music teacher
lucky fellow |
