I have fin blanks.
With your extensive footstrap test experience, you could easily test and review

FWIW, I’ve tried packing tape and sail repair tape after cleaning the hull. Neither worked for more than a couple minutes. _________________ Brian S

So, does it make sense to buy aluminum tape( aluminum is a metal BTW )
For $35 , to cover fin boxes, where a proper fin box blank is $8—-15 for a pair ??
So, Does it make sense to buy aluminum tape to cover a hole, when it isn’t designed for this and have water now in your board ? _________________ K4 fins

When the Nationals happenned here a few years ago, aluminum tape was spotted on Wilhem,s slalom board and Paolo's formula board covering what must be cracks from travelling and impacts from multiple days of high winds.
The best slalom local, who used to compete in the Kanaha Sat slalom, also uses aluminum tape, NOT ducttape. |

Found this: It’s permanent , waterproof and cheap.
Hope this helps your tape cause.
Nashua 361-11 Waterproofing Repair Foil Tape combines tough, durable aluminum foil with tacky butyl rubber adhesive to form an instant airtight and waterproof bond that permanently seals leaks and gaps. Ideal for sealing pipes, gutters, roof alleys, trailers, shipping containers, and more, this foil tape adheres quickly to almost any surface and is cold, heat, and water resistant. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. The tape measures 1.89 inches by 10.9 yards.
I find their description hard to believe as its waterproof and water resistant . It’s waterproof or its not. _________________ K4 fins

The OP wanted to cover a damaged box so he could go back out sailing. The racers around here use the heavy duty aluminum tape for temporary repairs. I've used it too, and it has proven to be pretty effective. _________________ Kevin Kan

The original post : blew out , cracked the bottom of the box.
Seeking a replacement box. It mentions tape, never as a temp repair.
Tape was remarked by several others, as why even put JB weld on it , tape it.
Band aid on cancer is what I see.
Another discussion is that I dont have box blanks and will the tape hold over them . Since this is a no harm no foul event , nothing can go wrong except the tape not sticking , go for it, or buy the box covers.
Most sizes available from K4. |
