|
|
Tested 555 FLEXFIX , Metallized Polypropylene Film with Acrylic Adhesive. Comes in metric sizes, 3.10mils thick. Color metal or black
Tested at 75–81 F, at 6250 elevation, under mostly controlled conditions.
Board a dumpster find, color grey. Fin box Trim-Box, hole through hull to secure to fin .
Board was cleaned with Mr. Clean (what else ? ) Goo Gone, H20. Dried, sun and heat gun.
Tape applied over box centered on hole, then reinforced with overlap layers using a pixel program union. Total 3 segments of the tape. See photo :
The box was filled with H20 using the top side hole, side your feet go on.
Let set undistrubed , all care to prevent kittens from ripping tape, for 1.75hours.
Absolutely no water came around the tape.
To simulate wave and pounding water a garden hose was secured, green with yellow stripe , under highest pressure water was shot at the exposed tape edges, again NO damage , at this point things are looking really good.
Photo 2. After exhausting tests of the 555 NO damage/fray /looseness was noticeable by the lab.
A side note improvement would be on a box, place a thin but fairly rigid cover over then hole prior to the 555 tape install to form a stiffer surface.
We recommend the silver color here at Colorado All things Fins., and Colorado Board Co.
No decernable leakage or movement of the 555 tape
No animals were harmed prior/during or after .
The link below is an Inside Edition test of tape: Draw you own conclusion.

All the Windsurfers I know have a better supply of spare boards than they do of repair tape. |

It really doesn't take much of a fiberglass repair kit to do permanent repairs at the beach if you don't have another board or can't wait to get back to the shop. |

Nice job on the test U2.
How about a... Test, Part 2. Where you test it on a super textured board deck. Many beach or mast dings happen at the beach to the top of the board. _________________ Greg
