69 also, have sailed Bird Island, and first day on Naish foil was foiling into jibes but touching down and fell all 5 attempts at foiling jibes. Wind lasted 20 minutes that day.

Its all just a choice. I do have to say, the first day out on a 15 inch mast I was surprised how little wind it took to get my board up to speed in the straps and on a plane. Not windsurf fast but I was on a 5.2 sail in lite wind...

Exactly the same for me..5.2 in 6-14 wind was almost too much in the gusts. Gusts of 18 had me foiling up standing way forward. I'd like steady 11 with Naish setup.

Other than the "training set" from Slingshot nobody really produces a wind foil with a mast shorter than 70 cm. The norm is 70-85 for beginner/freeride.

The Naish system is interchangeable with their SUP/Kite/Surfing foils. The standard surfing foil mast is 55 cm so if you so both windsurf & surf or have shallow water the 55 cm mast works fine with the windsurf foil wing setup.

Lots of good and differing viewpoints on this new wind adventure. keep it up gentlemen...dllee, a friend is looking hard at the Naish 122 and foil. Are you using the 122 board with your Naish foil? If so, how is it working out for you. Our local spot doesn't get steady foiling winds in the summer. More like 10 to 20 before building to good windsurfing wind. Our fall winds, if we have water, are better 8 to 15 ish. The Naish is suppose be great for lite winds. Can you control it in that 10 to 20 mph range?

Foiling is addictive.

You might not go back to the windsurfing that you are used to.

I wanted to thank you all for your wisdom on the topic and let you know it has helped me focus on products which will likely help me progress smoothly into foiling. I've decided to get a dedicated windsurfing foil 140+ liter board and the matching foil to go with it, including a short mast and a standard length mast. I keep convincing myself that toys like this is why I've been saving money for my retirement!

A sincere thank you to all who have posted. Follow your advice I will!

Enjoy the ride. Sling Shot and others have on line foil schools. These help the learning curve a bunch. I watch several to get wider perspective before I hit the water.
