This is a spin-off from another recent post
I often wonder how many boards, sails and other equipment are made and sold each year. It has to be an incredibly tough business so I am more than happy to support my local ( more or less ) dealer. Like a scuba shop in the middle of nowhere.
If we don’t support the few stores still in business they will be gone sooner than later.
Can anyone make an educated guess about how many boards are built and sold each year? Geographic distribution ?
Sails and other accessories ?
Which companies sell the most equipment? |

I had, and still do the opportunity to import a mast . No one sells them in the US . It would not have amount to a life’s investment. After much deliberation thoughts on the entire enterprise, I did not.
I have One mast that I use, its the bomb.
Worldwide , the US IMO is low on percentage of gear purchase.
The only guess is Starboard, Fanatic near the top on boards.
My thoughts on the local dealer are its a 2 way street.
That after thinking some, 2 brick stores in Berkeley closed, 1 in NM( another opened) and 1 in Avon,(now internet mostly) this in around 25years.
Without other products the shops would not survive at all. Clothing must made a shitload for them . _________________ K4 fins

i think rental places help.... the good ones change out their gear every year. and then you got the renters who bash the hell out of them. |

I saw a video of the Hatchery on you tube. It had windsurfing, wind foiling, kiting, kite foiling, sup, sup foiling and a big sail boat pass in a 2 min. shot. All of them right in the wave zone except the boat. Must be frustrating for a long time Gorge guy. |

Actually it's not that bad even with all the new sports. And I've been sending people out to Mike's favorite launch lately, so the Hatchery is
not so crowded these days, and Doug's even less so. ;*) ;*)

So THAT'S what happened over the past several years. Sure glad I tell NO ONE about my backup spots. Almost told a bestie about the best one until I sensed he would not keep it to himself. You know ... the "But it's OK if I tell just one guy about it, isn't it?" clause.
Um ... NO. |

Last year participation at the place where I sail dropped 50%. The other guy moved to Washington State. |
